INFOMERCIAL ASSIGNMENT
Infomercial: Utilizing Monroe’s Motivated Sequence
OBJECTIVES:
· To demonstrate understanding of Monroe’s Motivated Sequence
· To utilize appropriate appeals for your product; ethos, pathos, logos.
· To foster creativity and critical thinking skills
· To demonstrate audience analysis by creating and selling a product that meets the audience’s needs
· To demonstrate ability to present an on-line presentation of the infomercial
CRITERIA:
1. Develop a product you think would be beneficial for the audience of this class.
2. Prepare an infomercial style presentation. It should be 3-5 minutes long.
3. Present the infomercial on-line using Monroe’s Motivated Sequence:
Attention – Get our attention: Pick one: question, demonstration/enactment, quote, startling statistic
Need – Show the class a need/problem they have, which your product can solve
Satisfaction – Display the product and tell us how it works
Visualization – Show us how our lives will be benefit if we use/buy this product
Action – Tell us how and where we can purchase this wonderful product
4. Product Analysis Paper: This is worth 35 points for the analysis and 19 in the assignment (Total 54 points). . This is different from the outline. Explain why what you did will work, like a marketer. See Product Analysis Paper Assignment.
5. Create a typed and full sentence outline using the Monroe’s Motivated Sequence organizational pattern. Remember steps should be in order listed above. The Attention and Need step will be included in the Introduction. The Satisfaction and Visualization step will be in the Body. The Action step will be in the Conclusion. This is what you will say in the speech. This is worth15 points.
6. The infomercial should include a mock-up of the product . The Mock Up of the product cannot be something that already exists unless you modify it! The product may be 3-D or may be a professional style graphic. Possibly including your brand name, logo, etc.
7. Think about infomercial you have seen on TV. Have fun with this assignment. Be creative possibly including; demonstrations, volunteers, PowerPoint, music, etc.) Show me that you put some original thought, creativity, thought, and effort into your presentation.
