Proposal Requirements

The Proposal is to be approximately (2) double-spaced pages (body of paper including the Reference List/Sources) and include the following parts:

1. Identify/Describe the Technology Topic selected for the emerging technology innovations infographic with an introduction explaining its: 1) focus (ONE question that will be answered and will be the focus of the infographic), 2) purpose (informing, increasing awareness, educating, or convincing the target audience to take action), 3) related industry/sector, and 4) why you chose this topic. Important! Refer to the " Technology Topics for the Infographic " in Stage 1 of this project for suggested emerging technology topics. Not using a technology from the list will result in a 15 point deduction.

2. Be Sure You're Specific as to What Question you're planning to answer with the infographic. Write at least a few sentences discussing the question.

3. Identify/Describe Target Audience(s) selected with rationale related to the technology topic. Important! Refer to " Target Audience for the Infographic " in Stage 1 of this project for the suggested target audience(s)/groups.

4. Identify Statistical Data and Information Sources for the infographic with citations in a Reference List following APA style format - 6th edition that will be used to tell your Infographic's "story" (e.g., how the technology works, history/evaluation of the technology, benefits/opportunities and challenges/problems, future direction). There should be at least 3-5 sources of which at least 2 should be identified as providing statistical data. All sources, whether statistical data or background information, are to be from reputable sources and relevant.  Important! Refer to " Statistical Data and Information Sources for the Infographic " in Stage 1 of this project for recommended sources to explore.

5. Annotate your Information Sources to identify relevance and credibility. Each of the 3-5 information sources are to include the following:

· Annotation with full bibliographic information containing the following:

· Description of the data source with a brief summary. (Note: the summary must be "paraphrased" in your own words - NO DIRECT QUOTES from the information source!)

· Describe whether the source is providing you with statistical data for your project or whether the source is providing you with background information.

· Describe the relevance of information source. How is this data source directly relevant to your question and/or intended audience? Why did you choose this source? Support how this source is relevant.

· Discuss the accuracy and currency of information source. (Is the information in the source accurate and up-to-date?)

NOTE: Each source's annotation is at least 5-7 sentences in length.

Grading Rubric for Proposal

This assignment is worth 75 points of the project grade and will be graded based on the rubric below. In addition, the instructor and/or the instructional assistants will review students' proposals and provide feedback that will guide students as they undertake to create their Infographic using Piktochart.

· Exemplary (68-75 points): Infographic proposal is specific in describing the scope of the project and includes all required parts: technology topic, including introduction, target audience(s), and at least 3-5 relevant/reliable statistical data and information sources that are formatted according to APA style and are well described in the annotation as to relevance, credibility, and currency.

· Accomplished (60-67 points): Infographic proposal defines the scope of the project but may be missing required parts (e.g., technology topic, including introduction, target audience(s), and at least 3-5 relevant/reliable statistical data and information sources that are formatted according to APA style) and/or remains too broad or narrow. Annotation of the sources may be less well described or may be missing elements.

· Developing (53-59 points): Infographic proposal is somewhat unclear and/or too broad or narrow in scope. Required parts (e.g., technology topic, including introduction, target audience(s), and at least 3-5 relevant/reliable statistical data and information sources that are formatted according to APA style) may be missing, as well.

· Unsatisfactory to Beginning (0-52 points): Infographic proposal does not define the scope of the project and/or is missing a substantial number of required parts (e.g., technology topic, including introduction, target audience(s), and at least 3-5 relevant/reliable statistical data and information sources that are formatted according to APA style).]

Timeliness:

· Submitted within 1 day (24 hours) after the deadline: deduct 1-5 points

· Submitted 1-2 days (24-48 hours) after the deadline: deduct 6-10 points

· Submitted 2-3 days (49-72 hours) after the deadline: deduct 11 points - overall failing

Important! Infographic proposals that are not submitted by the deadline (see above) will have points deducted from the proposal's grade and will be in jeopardy of receiving a failing grade for the assignment. Digital Infographics created in Piktochart will not be accepted without the proposal submission!
