Literature Review

Information from Instructor:

I have completed the review of the rough drafts.  Please keep in mind that the emphasis of this class is on theoretical orientation and treatment approach.  I have given you feedback on population and problem as well to try to assist you with having a complete work prior to starting the PDE process.  I am expecting more information related to theory and treatment in the final paper.  You are free to add information on population and problem but you must address theory and treatment.

Some common issues in papers:

1) Do not summarize articles.  The number of participants in a study, age, gender, etc...is not necessary in a literature review.  The literature review should be a cohesive narrative drawn from the review of multiple articles with synthesis of information under headings.  Please make sure to address this prior to the completion of the final paper for the class.

2) Do not plagiarize. All work is checked through TurnItIn.  For the final PDE the standard is that the TurnItIn report must be below 20%.  Professors are free to utilize other standards for other classes so make sure you know the expectations for each class.  I hold to the 20% mark in all my classes.

3)Sources must be recent. Research on all topics should include recent information (i.e., 2016-2019).  A reliance on articles older than this should be avoided.  You do not have to eliminate the older articles; go back and add newer articles to your work.  Your literature review must reflect an understanding of the current state of research in your particular area.

4) APA is important.  I have corrected some of the APA errors and pointed out others in my feedback to you.  I will not do so in the final paper.  It is your responsibility to check line spacing, references, citations, etc...throughout the paper.  All work in this program should be in APA 6th edition style.  It is important to make a concentrated effort on each paper to adhere to the standards.  This will make it easier to do so with each paper.

5) Provide citations in your work.  While your reference list may show that you read multiple articles for your work, you must provide citations in your writing to support statements.  I have added places in papers with (citation) for areas that need support.  These are not the only areas.  You must provide support for your work.

*While you have some good information in your rough draft, your paper provides various summaries of individual articles.  A literature review should include the synthesis of multiple articles organized under various headings. Additionally, you are relying on articles that are outdated.  You will need to add newer sources to your final work.  Be sure to focus on the theoretical orientation and treatment modalities in your final paper.
