statement of purpose graduate school phd applicant
I am interested to join the doctoral program offered jointly through CSULB and the Claremont University in Engineering and Industrial Applied Mathematics.
My name is Aziz, I have a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in systems engineering from Loyola Marymount University.
Being a systems engineer, I have good understanding of the system and its subsystems, which gives me the ability to think and apply lean, quality and waste elimination. (Click Here for more info about the System Engineering, M. S. program) .
My master’s studies thesis was about reliable and safe power solutions for Saudi Arabia, where I explored the alternatives of renewable, safe, reliable power sources.
I am currently doing my optional practical training (OPT) with the plant operation department at California Rehab Institute in Los Angeles, CA.
Working at CRI I have the chance to manage projects onsite, conduct emergency drills and get involve with disaster planning community, be part of the quality team, lead the engineering department to provide support to internal and external customers, maintain the mechanical, electrical and water systems in the building, also apply lean methodology, systems architecture and systems thinking on the plant operations such as our material management and inventory planning.
With that being said, I have recently received a full sponsorship from the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission to do my PhD in engineering. This will be a great opportunity and a challenge to gain more knowledge, and have more room for research in well-structured academic platform such as CSULB. I have explored your department’s graduate school website, and it seems like an excellent fit for me.
Dear Dr. Rahai, It was a pleasure meeting with you yesterday. I sincerely enjoyed our conversation, hearing about the research topics within the department, and learning more about the PhD program at CSULB. As I mentioned, I am interested in sustainable and renewable energy and have dedicated most of my projects throughout my education towards this topic. Please find attached slides, where I used systems engineering methods to come up with a sustainable, reliable, and cost effective alternative source of energy for Saudi Arabia (CSP). You have mentioned that there is a team working on transforming the ECS building into a smart building. I am interested to learn more about their research and design. It is my hope in the near future, with my education and dedication to this subject matter, to be part of Neom project (click on the link for more info) . I will finish the online applications by next week hoping to start as soon as this summer if any classes are offered.
I have met with the program director Dr. Hamid Rahai last week, and a potential research advisor Dr. Masoud Nazari this week to talk about my graduate school plan at CSULB and I was recommended to proceed with the application.
I will have full scolarship by The Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission (SACM),
