Individual reflection

· What did the project do?

The project has involved a marketing plan for a charity called…. The company does not have a sufficient market share to cover their expenses and earn a good amount of profits. Thus, our team which is from five people has created a marketing plan in order to increase their market share and make it well known in the market. In addition, the project involved official meetings between us and the client (BMECP manager), to share information and explore about their exact needs.

· What did the project achieve?

The project has achieved a better knowledge about competitors, which might help BMECP in implementing new ideas in order to enlarge the profits margin. In addition, we gave some recommendations for the BMECP

· What did I contribute?

I personally contributed in the project as a primary role. I was organizing the meetings with the client. In addition, I was the link between the client and my colleagues when the client emails me with some information or requirements that have to be done in the report. Furthermore, I was nominated by the client to be an admin on their page on Facebook, in order to make the fundraiser for the BMECP. I took the role of being a team leader, as I assigned the tasks for each of the students, and I collected their work and gathered it in one report. According to Goleman (1998) Leadership is about getting the job done through others, not doing the job yourself. Moreover, I contributed in suggesting ideas for the report structure. Finally, I was the one who gathered the information about competitors to organize the visits to them. Although, I visited the friends centre which is the main competitor for BMECP, and I created a list of differences between the BMECP and Friends Centre strengths and weaknesses.

· What did I learn?

I learnt that leadership is not as easy as every student thinks. Because the leader has to manage the group and split the tasks between them equally. In addition, I gained a better experience in applying the theories and models in the real life with a real client.

· How will I take this learning forward into my working life after university?

After the bachelor’s degree, I am planning to do master in project management. Therefore, I will be a manager one day, because I am planning too to manage my own business in the future. Thus, the work we have done in this project has taught me how to be professional with other parties from other firms. However, McClelland (1973) states that traditional cognitive intelligence simply could not predict how well people would perform in the work place

· What would I/we do differently next time in a similar situation?

The project’s structure was well organised and communicated perfectly between students. In addition, the communication between the team and the client was smooth and on a frequent basis. However, there were always late replies from the client if we need any information or data. In a situation like that in the future, we would be giving certain deadlines for an information to be submitted with exact dates. In order to organize the tasks and work more sufficiently.
