INSTRUCTIONS FOR INDIVIDUAL PRESENTATION
INTERCULTURAL BUSINESS
Worth 20% of final mark
You are invited by a Canadian company to present "Doing Business in ______". You will prepare a PowerPoint presentation on "Doing Business in ______", a cover letter, résumé, and biography to send to the company.
Your presentation can reflect the industry/sector of the company. Your cover letter is to thank the company for the speaking opportunity and let them know you are sending the PowerPoint presentation, your résumé, and biography (bio). The company usually sends your bio to the audience before the presentation.
The country you choose is often the country that you know the most (that you have spent time there, you know the language and culture, and business practices.)
Each student is required to upload two files and one link to the Dropbox here:
1. One PowerPoint file: presentation (no video)
2. One Word file: cover letter, résumé, biography
3. Put the OneDrive link (PowerPoint presentation video) in "Comments"
Assignments are not accepted via email.

1. Create a PowerPoint presentation
Please select a Canadian company from the EDC success stories list (sign up on Discussions here, no duplication please), and choose a new market (country) for the company.

You will assist this company to export its product/service to the new market.
Each student prepares a PowerPoint presentation on “Doing Business in ___” for the company before they travel to ___. Please see the Sample (updated Oct. 15) and create 10 – 15 slides. Use photos more than words. Each slide and each photo must have source, and should have notes at the bottom.

2. Create your profile
Each student prepares for the company: a cover letter sent to the company about the presentation (1 page), your résumé (1-2 pages), and your biography (100-150 words).
Please see sample of cover letter, sample of résumé, and samples of biographies.
3. Video recording
Use video recording in PowerPoint, or use Zoom/phone to make a video for 4 – 6 minutes, then upload to OneDrive or YouTube.
(To save recorded PowerPoint presentation as a video, select File > Export > Create a Video > Select Video Quality > Use Recorded Timings and Narrations> Create Video.)
Audio recording is not accepted. It is students' responsibility to make sure that the link works.

Vietnamese Names
• Last name then first name. - Nguyễn Kathy
• “Thị” often indicates a female, and “Văn” indicates a male.
• People go by first name, because there are only about 14 last names:
- Ms. Thanh = Cô Thanh (general) or Bà Thanh (formal, or older women).
- Mr. Khôi = Anh Khôi (general) or Ông Khôi (formal, or older men).
• Therefore, the Vietnamese might call you by first name.
- For example: Ms. Kathy or Mr. Kevin.

• Modesty and respect are expected. - “Xin mời” = Please …
- “Xin phép” = I ask for permission to…
• Harmony can be more important than individual preference.
