interview with one person who functions in a leadership role.
OL-500 Individual Paper #3 Leadership Profile
You will conduct an interview with one person who functions in a leadership role. This interview focuses on a particular leadership practice/process/activity (i.e., decision making, strategic planning, leadership development, program launch, etc.) and is informed by one of the leadership perspectives discussed in the textbook or extant literature (i.e., transformative leadership, situational leadership, servant leadership, participative leadership, positive leadership, etc.). Students should capture the essence of their responses in a 2-3-page paper which shares the insights gained by talking to a leader about leadership role and then analyzing their responses using a particular contemporary leadership theory.
• Title: A journalistic style headline that captures key theme of the leadership story-line (5 points). • A compelling introductory paragraph that provides backdrop of the story, which may include a
presenting problem about the industry they're in and/or the challenges of being a leader in that type of industry/setting (15 points).
• A paragraph which briefly describes how you approached the interview. This includes your overall approach, the focus of your interview questions, where the interview took place, and any other interesting insights. The following are examples of areas that could serve as potential areas of focus: 1) the leader’s personal leadership journey and how they mentor young leaders 2) how the leader has developed strategic insight through the roles they've played in organizations and now how they involve others in strategic planning 3) how the leader has seen a change in decision- making from a 1-person to a shared/team approach, 4) how a leader perceives the changing nature of leadership due to complexity of global world (20 points).
• Subsection (2-4 paragraphs) which reports out on the insights from the interview. This sub- section can be organized in a couple of different styles, e.g. timeline style, the interview questions themselves, or some key themes or factors. This sub-section should report out on key findings and include some key quotes from the leader interviewed (20 points).
• Subsection (1-2 paragraphs) which reports on "Emerging Leadership Practices". This sub-section provides conclusions about future approaches to leadership practices, processes, and/or developing and training leaders. These recommendations are grounded in what the student learned about the leadership theories explored in the textbook and in what they extrapolated from their leader's reflections about their role and the changing nature of leadership (20 points).
• Final 20 points are for overall organization of your paper, formatting and grammar.

Writing Comments: TECHNICAL
1. Technical errors create “noise” in this form of communication. If you are preparing information, memo, communication to your supervisor and it is full of technical errors throughout – the content and the desired action you are looking for will be lost because your manager is distracted by these technical errors.
2. There is no bolding or change in font size anywhere in an APA/business format paper. Check out: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/
3. When in doubt, if a sentence appears to be a run-on sentence - break out into two sentences. 4. WS – word series, there should be commas throughout the listàplanning, organizing, leading,
and controlling. 5. WC – word choice. This is important. You want to check to see if there is a better word to use.
E.g. obtain versus attain or achieve. Obtain ties to physically securing, whereas attain or achieve is a success realized but not necessarily physically securing. In business attain or achieve are preferred. Start using your synonyms function – you should be expanded your vocabulary and using business terminology whenever possible.
6. SP – spelling. Proof, proof, proof. Spell check is not going to pick up incorrect usage of words. E.g. using and instead of are, two totally different meanings.
7. SS/SM – sentence structure/sentence meaning. If you get this noted on your paper that means there is either a grammatical error or I stumbled over the sentence several times before I understood what you were saying.
8. Singular/Plural. Please be consistent within the sentence. If you are saying an individual, you should be using his or her, he or she in conjunction with it NOT they or their.
9. Punctuation – proof carefully for usage of commas, semi-colons, colons and periods. 10. Sentence period and spacing. BE CONSISTENT, either 1 space of the sentence period or two and
do it throughout the paper, NOT a combination of both. 11. Word repetition – most, like, but, if you are using the word more than once in a sentence,
reword your sentence. If you are using word to start every sentence in a paragraph, rework the paragraph so you are using the word sparingly.
12. Proof your work by reading it aloud. If you stumble, you may need to rework the sentence. You will also be able to note missed words.
