Individual Assignment #1: Up to 50 Points

What to Turn In

1. Resume (See Part 1)—

2. Job description (See Part 1)

3. Cover letter

4. An essay, of three paragraphs, explaining to me a) why you are interested in this job, b) how it relates to your major, and c) how it relates to your long-term career goals. Please treat this like a normal essay, with indented paragraphs, double spacing, and attention paid to make sure there are no spelling, grammar, punctuation or other writing errors. Devote one paragraph of your essay to each question.

Put all four parts in a single Word or PDF file and submit that file through TurnItIn. You must submit all four parts of the assignment to receive any credit for the assignment.

Part 1: Preparation for Assignment

Find a description of professional job or an internship you would like to have, either now or after you graduate. Save a copy of the job description, whether it is from LinkedIn, Hire JSOM or another website. Prepare a professional resume using the regular undergraduate or technical resume template from the Career Management Center (CMC) in JSOM.

Research the company prior to your “interview”. Be sure that you understand and can express how you can fit the needs of the company as well of the job itself.

Please note: Any typos of any kind on your resume or other accompanying materials on this assignment will lower your grade for this assignment one full letter grade. No exceptions.

Part 2: Assignment

Prepare your resume and a one-page cover letter for the job you found in the job posting. The letter must be formatted like a professional business letter to be mailed, not like an email.

Also, explain, in a separate essay of at least three paragraphs, a) why you are interested in this job, b) how it relates to your major, and c) how it relates to your long-term career goals.

Remember to copy and paste the job posting into the file you are submitting, along with the other documents. Don’t worry if the job posting formatting is all wonky! That’s fine.

Please note: The grade will be based how well your letter matches the job requirements, how persuasive your cover letter is, how closely your resume follows the CMC template,
