Important - VITAL TO SUCCESS IN THIS CLASS

IF YOU FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES IN THIS ANNOUNCEMENT AND DO THE HOMEWORK TO HAVE GOOD DATA YOU WILL DO WELL ON THE PROJECT AND WELL IN THE CLASS. ABOUT A THIRD OF YOU WILL IGNORE OR FORGET THE GUIDELINES AND YOUR GRADE WILL REFLECT THAT -YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!

THIS IS IMPORTANT - DON'T BE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE - READ THIS AND TAKE IT TO HEART

As you work on the project keep a number of things in mind:

THE MAIN THING IS YOU ARE TELLING AN ECONOMICS STORY OF YOUR DECADE - but you cannot tell every detail so focus and pick something you think is important and tell it well BUT REMEMBER YOU ARE TELLING AN ECONOMICS STORY - NOT SPORTS OR CURRENT EVENTS OR POLITICAL HEADLINES, you should not care about Hollywood and Washington D.C. unless it has an economics component.

You need to think of the milestones as a draft of a presentation document:

You need to think like you are presenting this to a group of economists or investors or a class or some such audience - design it that way

Your slides should make MAIN POINTS and be eye catching - DO NOT OVERLOAD THEM WITH WORDS - POINTS AND PICTURES ARE WHAT YOU WANT

Include speaker's notes to help fill in the blanks - explain your points in your speakers notes - I write this and underline and about a third of each class ignores this even after I grade them down on it in the first milestone. Speaker's notes would be notes only you would see if you were giving this live, they would be the detailed talking points explaining the headlines and pictures on your slide.

NO ONE WANTS TO READ A SLIDE OR HAVE IT READ TO THEM, SO WORDY SLIDES ARE DEATH TO AN EFFECTIVE PRESENTATION. IF YOU HAVE A SLIDE THAT IS ALL WORDS, CENTER THE WORDS, USE BULLET POINTS, USE COLOR - MAKE IS EYE APPEALING IN SOME WAY.

    Busy slides kill a presentation - filled but not busy - use pictures, graphs, tables, a little humor

I will grade and comment on each milestone - I expect to see those comments and grades worked into the final presentation at the end. If I catch a spelling error or factual error or conceptual error on a milestone and comment on it and see it again at the end it will be marked down more at the end.

THIS IS A PROCESS OF IMPROVEMENT - THE FINAL SHOULD BE BETTER THAN THE MILESTONES

It is possible and has happened that people get lower grades on the final version then on the milestones because they did not fix things I caught at the milestone level. EVEN IF I DON'T CATCH THINGS YOU SHOULD EDIT, PROOFREAD AND EDIT AGAIN!
