Item One

The concept of a single story. This concept illustrates that when a person only has one story about something, they are blinded, and they perceive things according to the story they know. Therefore, people should learn more about avoiding being confined with single stories. The concept is important because more than one story makes someone more open-minded.

Item Two

Placebo effect - placebo is used to describe anything that seems real, but it isn’t. The placebo effect is mostly observable in medical research and other research papers. The concept is significant as it indicates that one has to verify that a research study uses valid and reliable data to come up with conclusions to avoid the placebo effect.

Item Three

Epidemiology. It is the study of the distribution and determinants of health-related events and states in specified populations. The concept is used to explain how people study diseases. The concept is essential as it can be used to explain healthcare research.

Item Four

Consciousness. It is the state of being aware and responsive to the surroundings. A lot of people have come up with theories explaining consciousness. It remains one thing that people still try to figure out today. I found it an interesting concept because of the different schools of thought that have been used to describe it.

Item Five

Psychology. It is the scientific study of human behavior and mind. It includes many fields that have been studied by numerous researchers. It is a significant concept as it may be used to explain human behavior and mind, thus understanding how the human mind functions.

Item Six

Funnel Plot. A scatter plot indicates the treatment effect against a measure of the study precision. It is an important concept as it may be used to identify whether a study has a bias or presents actual and accurate results. Thus, through the funnel plot, reliable research can be identified.

Item Seven

Psychoanalysis. It is a set of psychological theories and therapeutic techniques developed by Sigmund Freud. It indicates that people have unconscious desires, thoughts, memories, and feelings. Psychoanalysis is one of the studies that revolutionized the human mind study. Thus, it is a significant concept.

Item Eight

False Positive. A false-positive result wrongly indicates that a particular attribute is present. Thus, it is misleading to a researcher. I found the concept interesting as it can be interpreted as some of the attributes that are said to be true may be wrong in various studies.

Item Nine

Observable behavior. It is an action performed by an organism that can be measured and seen. It is an important concept in behaviorism, emphasizing observable behavior rather than cognitive mental processes. Thus, I found it interesting as it may be used to study the human mind.

Item Ten

Functionalism. It is a theory that explains the mental states of a person. Functionalism promotes people to think about what they may do rather than what they are made of. Thus, it is significant in understanding the human brain.
