Implementing an Electronic Health Record

The dynamic world is going digital, and the health sector is not left behind as some of the technologies are being utilized to improve health facilities. Technology is here to help foster efficiency and reduce the workload that man approached as a challenge. New technology has not always appealed to everyone as some people feel threatened in the way that technology is replacing them from their regular duties. As much as there is some truth to such an argument, the perception is one-sided and does not fully explore all the possible angles of opportunities. Adoption of new technology (Electronic Health Record) will lead to changes as it offsets the normal operations. It is my expectation as the Health Manager that this change(s) will be positive towards the motivation of the employees. Depending on the type of change, it would also affect the level of commitment of an employee. Changes can be intervallic, radical, revolutionary, incremental, and positioned which may remain constant, drift, move or disappear over time (Hsiu-Fen, 2007).

Change elicits different forms of motivation, intrinsic or extrinsic and they are altered in the process also. An employee will feel pushed from the comfort zone when he/she perceives change as an impending threat to normal working. When motivation is minimal, the employee will have less enthusiasm to carry out activities, this leads to underperformance, and both quality and service will deteriorate. It is my role as the manager to ensure that each employee is adjusting to changes with minimal efforts and they are positively taking in the transition. The proper way of assisting employees to get used to change is comprehending the effect of transformation to the parties in question. Since the objective of the most organization is that they become successful, it would be my mandate as the manager to certify that the changes are being appropriately enacted and not in a manner to lead to stress emergency. Communication would be a better way of promoting the benefits of a change in a language that the employees can understand. Also, it would be necessary to measure the conditions at the hospital to decide on whether they would lead to proper acceptance of change. It is essential for me to understand what motivates the employees in their team roles.

For the employees to feel at ease with the implementation of the new EHR, I should provide a clear context on the various reasons prompting this transition. My main aim will be steering them in the same direction as earlier before the implementation of the technology but now with an added advantage (Marie & Neal, 2006). The change would demand to help them eliminate their attachment to a particular behavior that is linked to the previous way of operation. I will demonstrate the usefulness of EHR at a broader context so that the but the idea of implementing it. EHR has several advantages that overwhelm the disadvantages which will be critical to point out. Remaining relevant in the medical sector, and countering competition through the transformation of health care for better efficiency and quality service, will be necessitating factors that I will paint a clear picture to the employees.

The employees were not well-informed about the training that had been ordered by the employer hence more reasons for them to fail to acknowledge its necessity. I will be definite enough to ensure they become fully aware that they were going to be involved in the whole transformation process and that there was no reason for them to feel their job positions threatened. The EHR cannot serve its purpose without the intervention of workers inputting information and sharing within the medical facility. Assisting them to understand that the training in the meaningful use of the EHR will lead to change in their roles will be essential for them to look forward to the initiation of the process. Since the new technology will be characterized by up-to-date and accurate patient records, secure sharing, reduce medical errors, convenience health care, reduction in costs due to less paperwork and overall efficiency will be reasons enough for embracing EHR (Jeffrey et al., 2007).
