Issue: Immigration Amnesty in the United States

Aspect 1: Healthcare

Pro: Messias, D. K. H., Mcewen, M. M., & Clark, L. (2015). The impact and implications of undocumented immigration on individual and collective health in the United States. Nursing Outlook, 63(1), 86–94. doi: 10.1016/j.outlook.2014.11.004

The authors discuss the impact of undocumented immigration to our healthcare system; these include access to proper health care and the implications of the provision of care especially by nurses. Despite the healthcare challenges faced by undocumented immigrants, services such as culturally and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS) are provided especially for immigrants who are less proficient in English, providing cultural and linguistic services collectively (Messias et al., 2015).

The authors summarize the disadvantages of immigration and its negative impact upon the healthcare system. The issues discussed also focus on lack of proper access to healthcare among immigrants. The authors discuss issues surrounding immigration, health laws and arguments relating to them such as, access to health, the healthcare of refugees, and a few ethical topics.

Aspect 2: Economic

Pro: Gordon, H. H. (2013). Immigration and economic growth. doi: 10.1787/9789264288737-8-en

The author emphasizes on the benefits of immigration to the growth of our economy. Despite the negative notion immigration presents to our world of politics, the author argues that our immigration system will increase revenue while positively boosting the effectiveness of the labor market. “For the world as a whole, international migration appears to increase total income and generate large gains for those who take the risk of moving from one nation to another (Gordon, 2013).”

The authors discuss the negative impacts of amnesty grants towards the United States economy. The major problem discussed relates to cost which could impact the workforce in terms of flexibility, competition among workers both natives and immigrants, and fluctuations of wages within the workforce affecting labor outcomes. In addition, lower wages can negatively impact job employment (Orrenius & Zayodny, 2012).

Aspect 3: Ethical

The article discussed the benefit of hiring high skilled undocumented or documented immigrants in a company. It further discussed the ethical values that comes with hiring an immigrant such as, individual higher performance, increased profit for the company, enhanced growth of a company and different personalities ethnically in United States. We hope that immigrants will provide a net fiscal benefit (Brunner, L., & Pate, J. 2016).

The authors discuss the ethical issues that surround family separation among undocumented immigrants and their families. This topic raises a big concern, controversy and ethical issue within the community. Common family separation amongst immigrants include separation of child from parent. Family separation can lead to psychological trauma, health related issues, and developmental issues especially among young children.
