Introduction

This paper aims to discuss the topic of immigration in the United States and the problems and difficulties that surround immigration. Furthermore, this paper will discuss aspects that should be addressed concerning the issues with immigration. Specifically, the problem to be discussed regarding immigration will address whether or not amnesty should be granted to undocumented immigrants who have peacefully and productively settled in the United States. In addition, economic, social and health care aspects of the problem will be discussed.

Immigration

Immigration is the movement of people from one place to another for which they intend to settle, work and start a living. The United States is enriched with a large diverse population with individuals from different countries. The United States is known to be the “land of the free,” and a country which presents life changing experiences and great opportunities. The United States is a reputable and attractive country, hence providing immigrants the opportunity to live the American dream.

The problem of illegal immigration has been ongoing for many years. According to United-States statistics, the population of legal and unauthorized immigration continue to grow. Due to the physical and financial constraints and poverty level in other countries, many immigrants migrate to the United states for an opportunity of a better life.

Granting Amnesty

I believe that the United States should grant amnesty to undocumented immigrants who have been productive without a criminal background. Many undocumented immigrants have lived peacefully in the United States and contributed to the improvement and development of the country. Granting amnesty to these certain individuals would be fair and deserved.

Social Aspect

In terms of social aspects, granting amnesty to undocumented immigrants promotes more diversity and also aids in alleviating some negative stereotypes, fears and fixed notions of individuals who are immigrants. Furthermore, this will promote social and cultural awareness and acceptance of other cultures within the society.

Economic Aspect

In terms of economic aspects, many undocumented immigrants have contributed to the United States work force. Granting amnesty to undocumented immigrants will bring more revenue to the government by legal employment of immigrants, paying taxes, and contributing to social security, health care insurance and welfare.

Healthcare Aspect

In terms of healthcare aspects, granting amnesty to undocumented immigrants will allow for access to healthcare. Many undocumented immigrants are reluctant to follow up with a doctor or access a health care facility due to lack of access to health care and out-of-pocket fees which can be financially constraining. If granted amnesty, undocumented immigrants will have the opportunity to obtain healthcare insurance and have adequate access to healthcare, which can help reduce healthcare co-morbidities and mortality rates and allowing for individuals to take charge in their health.

Conclusion

United States is a country with huge potential and presents many opportunities especially for immigrants. Many immigrants living in the United States are unfortunately undocumented. Undocumented immigrants who have positively contributed to the country, without a criminal history should be granted amnesty by the United States as it will make an impact in economic, social, and healthcare aspects.
