Resume here. In the intervening books there was a fight over the corpse of Patroklos that ends when Achilles shows himself and shouts, scaring off the Trojans. Achilles' armor (which Patroklos was wearing) has been taken by the Trojans so Achilles' mother Thetis has the god Hephaistos make new armor for Achilles. Thus armed Achilles rejoins the fight to get revenge for the death of Patroklos. By the beginning of book 22 all the Trojans except Hector have fled inside the walls.
