Your Personal Best Leadership Experience

The workshop you will soon be attending begins with a discussion of “personal best leadership experiences”. You will be expected to share your best leadership experience. This activity is important for two reasons. It will help you to learn from your own experiences and it will also help you learn from the experiences of the other participants. It sets the stage that leadership is about producing great results.

Please complete this assignment prior to your leadership session. Think about one of your best leadership experiences and answer the questions below. The exercise will take you about 15 minutes to complete.

A “personal best” is an event which you believe represents your individual leadership “standard of excellence”. Please recall such an event and answer the following questions:

· What was your overall goal, objective or vision for this project, event or situation?

My goal was to achieve the highest quality work and to perform the job successfully within the shortest possible time safely and perfectly.

· As leader, what actions did you take that contributed to the team’s success? What things did you do to create momentum and get extraordinary things done? Be specific.

Maintaining good and safe environment for the team. Listen from the team and discuss their ideas and try to be more flexible. Listening to them gives them a good feelings that will lead to better productivity and efficient.

· If you were going to teach someone else about leadership based on this experience, what lessons would you pass along about being an effective leader?

Try to be close to your team.

Know that ever one has a life outside the company that may sometimes effect their productivity so try to be fixable with them because one day they will do better.

A few reminders:

 Your personal best experience is what you believe is your personal standard of excellence.

 It is the occasion that you did your best work as a leader.

 It can be a situation where you were the formal leader, or a time when you took the lead even though you were not the formal leader.

 It may have occurred in the workplace or in the community.
