I intend to introduce a new course into the Walsh community. This will be a construction management course. The key reason as to why I think this will be necessary is due to the numerous listings for the job and the great compensation offered for the same. In order to make a rational decision, it is critical that a SWOT analysis as well as a cost benefit analysis is done in order to determine the viability of the course.

The fact that Walsh already has existing tutors within the build environment space makes it easy to sit and develop a curriculum for the program. It will also be easy to integrate the new program as the college has previously introduced new courses on board. These two are some of the key strengths. The eminent need and job market creates an opportunity worth exploring. Other colleges offer the training and since they have experience and an alumni base for the course are likely to offer competition. This being a new course there are likely to be challenges with figuring out how to run everything and that might make it harder for the school.

The costs associated with a new course includes getting approvals and accreditation of the training materials. The relevant regulatory and professional bodies must certify it. There are costs involved like hiring of additional tutors. Advertising for the course and trying to reach out to new students is likely to offer up challenges to the team. The only source of income in the short-term will be the fees charged to the students, this however must be kept low enough for the course to remain competitive.

Like with every other project, the initial stages pose a significant hurdle. A proper analysis is critical in informing the preparation. A SWOT analysis and cost benefit analysis are some tools one can use.
