Proposal
For this report, the organization that I would like to focus upon will be St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. This hospital specializes in treating children that have pediatric cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Since their inception in 1962, the organization has focused upon having a 100% survival rate for every child that has come through their doors and medically treated. Back in 1962, the survival rate was 20% for childhood cancer, and as of right now, more than fifty years since first opening their doors, it is at 80% (Stjude.org, 2020).
St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital is a nonprofit organization. As per their mission statement, “St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay. (Stjude.org, 2020). The majority of this organization’s funding comes from individual contributors and generous donors. They also have an operating model unique to this organization, called American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities (ALSAC). The sole purpose of ALSAC is to raise money and awareness for St. Jude’s (Charitynavigator.org, 2020). Annual reports and other financial data is easily found to be analyzed and researched for this class and final project.
