• These are photos of our (IHCC) actual slide
collection.
• What you would view if we had in-person labs.
• Use these to study for exam and to create your
Tissue Drawings.
• Test images will be from our collection only.
• Tissue Drawings must be from our collection only.

Histology Photos
• Remember: Tissues do not exist in isolation!
Organs are made of multiple tissues.
• Slides are taken from real structures/organs,
therefore a microscope slide rarely shows one tissue
type!
• Most of these slides will show multiple tissue types.

When studying histology (or anything with a
microscope), one of the most important skills to learn
is how to find something on a slide.

• Follow the same approach as you did with the deer:
SCAN FIRST!
• Use the scanning objective lens (4x) to get a “big
picture” of the organ/structure on the slide
• You may see multiple tissues!
• Use your knowledge of tissue locations to determine
which may be present
• e.g. Is this part of the lung? What type of epithelium could you
see?

• When you find an area of interest, then you will
zoom in with 10x, then 40x objectives
• We will not use 100x (oil immersion) objective in this
lab.
• Always remember to mark total magnification in
your notes and assignments.
“40x” implies total mag = 40x
“4x objective” implies total mag = 40x

• Scan, low power, high power.
• All labels indicate total magnification
• Various tissues are best viewed at different magnifications
• Photos on lab exam will be typical, showing tissue at
magnifications at which they are recognizable
