Social media platforms are running the show in the digital world at this very moment.
Customers no longer rely on NBC or CNN as their sole source for daily news updates. They
need only log into Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter (or any other social media sites) to obtain
the news they are interested in from all over the world. Everyone has their nose buried in
their iPhone, tablet, smart TV, smartwatch, or other artificial intelligence-powered hand-held
device. Ronny Chieng has recently released a stand-up special on Netflix about how ironic it
is that contemporary Americans depend so much on technology (Chieng, 2019). As part of
his stand-up act, he asks this question: "Who knew that knowing everything would make
people stupid?" (Chieng, 2019).
Some people believe that social media is similar to a cocktail party with a terrifying
conclusion (Funk, 2011). Sometimes, the landscape is not warm and inviting; on other
occasions, it is threatening and expansive. At least once per month, social media is used by at
least four out of every five Americans. Social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook are
teeming with information contributed by users from diverse educational, cultural, and social
backgrounds (Funk, 2011).
3
I will highlight the Instagram social media site for UAGC. I selected Instagram
because it is one of the most popular social media sites among college students and enables
users to share photos and videos with one another. I can easily share my experiences with the
other students in GEN102 by using the hashtag #UAGCGEN102. Instagram also gives me
the ability to communicate with my professors. Some educators have discovered ways to
incorporate students' use of social media into their classroom activities (Carpenter & Justice,
2017). When you connect with other students, you can ask for assistance with assignments,
discuss what you are learning in class, and network for potential employment opportunities.
4
On this social media platform, UAGC community members can converse with one another,
share ideas, and make new friends. Students can use it to post encouraging quotes, messages,
and pictures to one another, which will help them remain motivated and focused while in
class.
On the Global Campus of the University of Arizona, students have access to a variety
of social media sites, which they may also use (UAGC). Instagram is one of the most well-
liked social media platforms among college students. It provides a fantastic opportunity for
these individuals to connect and develop genuine relationships. By using the hashtag
#UAGCGEN102, students have an easier time connecting with other GEN102 students. They
can discuss their experiences and solicit assistance with their homework.
Thanks to Instagram, people who are a part of the UAGC community now have a
place to talk to one another, share ideas, and develop genuine relationships. For instance,
students can use Instagram to send inspirational quotes, messages, and photos to share with
their fellow students. Students may find it easier to maintain their focus and improve their
academic performance as a result of this. Instagram is an excellent platform for students to
network with new people and learn about employment opportunities in their area. Suppose a
student is interested in pursuing a particular line of work. In that case, they can use Instagram
5
to connect with working professionals in that line of work and obtain information and
guidance that is useful to them.
Connecting with other students on Instagram can result in several positive outcomes.
Students may have a better chance of getting to know their classmates, which may result in
improved study groups, projects completed jointly, and the dynamics of teams as a whole.
Additionally, it can assist students in staying abreast of activities, events, and announcements
at their respective universities. Aside from school-related activities, this is an excellent
opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities such as clubs and groups. Last but not
least, it can assist students in maintaining relationships with important people in their lives,
including friends, family, and others; this is an especially crucial benefit for students away
from their homes.
Students who use Instagram to connect with other students in various ways may find
that their academic performance is improved as a result. Students can collaborate more
effectively on projects and homework assignments thanks to the ease with which they can
share ideas and photographs. Students can also use Instagram to ask questions of their more
knowledgeable classmates, receive advice, and learn new things from those classmates. In
addition, this is an effective method for receiving feedback on assignments and learning
about upcoming tests and examinations. Students can use Instagram to locate new reading
materials, such as books, online tutorials, and other educational resources.
Students at UAGC should sign up for and use Instagram because it is a fantastic social
media website. Students may have a better chance of achieving their academic goals, staying
informed about what is going on at school, and making genuine connections with other
students through this technology. In addition to making it simple for students to maintain
contact with their family and friends, it also allows them to connect with other people and
6
investigate potential employment opportunities. Last but not least, it may simplify for
students to collaborate on school projects and assignments, pose questions to their more
experienced classmates, solicit their advice, and gain knowledge from them. All of these
things can assist students in achieving their academic goals and excelling in their studies.
