WEEK 6

This week and throughout the course, we've been using various terms like teamwork, collaboration and relationship building in the workplace.  Our task in this week's discussion will be to define some of these terms and concepts and compare and contrast them.  How are they similar or differ?  Are the techniques to encouraging teamwork and collaboration the same or different?  Is relationship building in the workplace important beyond the team in which one works?  Does collaboration also take place outside of the team?   Feel free to address any and all angles of these concepts and this topic.   Specific personal examples are also welcome.

In your initial posts, TWO external resources are required (see below).

Exceptionally in this Week 5 discussion, we are also looking external to the course, so you should include at least TWO external resources (e.g. a definition, some insight into the terms/concepts, an example, etc.).    For this discussion, APA format is recommended but not required.   At a minimum, you should include a link to your source.  Note that in most, if not all, future courses at UMGC, APA format for documentation will be required.

Do not over use direct quotes!  You should have no more than 25 words of direct quotes in your post.  If you choose to use a direct quote, choose wisely and paraphrase any other idea (rewrite in your own words and cite the source of the idea).

Week 7: Working on Projects

There are three options this week for your initial post 'Working on Projects'.  All three ask a similar question but in a slightly different way.   Feel free to respond to the question/topic in whatever variation your prefer.   This week's discussion brings together this week's readings on change management, project management and leadership, as well as content from previous weeks on team work and collaboration.  The intention is to reflect on your own experience within the context of these ideas.

Incidentally, these are very common interview questions, so considering and developing your personal response is excellent preparation.

1. What types of projects do you not want/like to work on? Why?

2. What types of projects interest you most? Why?

3. Have you ever worked on a project that failed (or nearly failed)?  Describe the situation, process and outcome.  Did it fail (or nearly fail) because of lack of project management, change management or leadership preparation?
