My topic is air pollution.
I already know the following about this topic: · Occurs when harmful biological molecules, gases, and particulates are introduced into earth’s atmosphere · It can cause allergies, diseases, and even death to people and other living organisms · Is caused by both human and natural processes |
This is what I want to know about my topic:
· I want to know the main effects of air pollution in the world and what makes them harmful · I want to know about the biggest sources of air pollution in the world and the reasons for such big emissions · I want to know about the cycles that reduce air pollution and those that contribute to more air pollution · I want to know who has the main responsibility to deal with air pollution

What I learned when exploring my topic through the social science lens: · Societies prefer a clean air environment as compared to a polluted one. Clean air requires the expenditure of resources and most societies have limited resources. Air quality is not a universal concern to most people around the country and globally. Air pollution remains because of a lack of effective polluter action, lack of effective public action (mainly through policies), and a lack of effective government control action. Have any of your questions been answered by the article you read? Explain. · From a social science lens, the question of responsibility has been addressed by showing air pollution is a multi-sector challenge that requires or parts of society to collaborate in dealing with air pollution. The article has also offered reallocation of resources, development and adaptation of technologies as some of the cycles of reducing air pollution. Citation: (Ringquist, 2016) |

What I learned when exploring my topic through the natural science lens: · Agricultural activities are gradually increasing their contribution to air pollution. The use of insecticides, pesticides, and fertilizers contributes to air pollution. From this air pollution, people can suffer from chronic diseases such as brain damages and lung cancer. I learned that air pollution contributes to acid rain which harms plants, humans, and water bodies Have any of your questions been answered by the article you read? Explain. · The question on the main effects of air pollution has been addressed by showing the effects of air pollution on humans and other natural resources. Human productivity reduces with air pollution because it can lead to chronic illnesses and the depletion of the environment. Citation: (Raaschou-Nielsen & Andersen, 2014) |

What I learned when exploring my topic through the history lens: · Air pollution has been a challenge for many years especially with the birth of industrialization. Agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rely on research to produce findings that help address air pollution. The research has helped identify mobile sources, stationary sources, area sources, and natural sources as the main contributors of air pollution. Have any of your questions been answered by the article you read? Explain. · This article has addressed the main sources of air pollution. It has helped me understand there is no specific source of air pollution but it is contributed by several sources that are interrelated. Citation: (Wettestad, 2018) |

What I learned when exploring my topic through the humanities lens: · Long-range planning is one of the main challenges in dealing with air pollution. The human element is key in dealing with air pollution despite the inclination toward techno-scientific approaches. The human element will contribute to the sustainability of different approaches or reducing air pollution. Human-based approaches to dealing with air pollution can help in designing the future which will require the goodwill of people because they are partly affected the most by air pollution. I have also learned that clean air part of human rights and human-centered solutions on air pollution can help address this challenge. Have any of your questions been answered by the article you read? Explain. · Humanities identify people as the main and the best source of air pollution solutions. Human-centered solutions are sustainable because they keep on adapting to the developing challenges of air pollution. Citation: (Gruskin & Samet, 2015) |
