I believe that people have different views. Everyone is different. My experiences in life might be similar but they are not the same as any other person. Lately, my sister and I rarely get alone because her point of view is very different than mine. I really let it go sometimes, however, she starts opening up the same issue over and over and I just cannot help myself but being honest to her about how I think. I believe we should respect other people’s views and value their perspective.
For me, the most valuable people in my life are my family members and my best friends. However, one of my best friends is my sister, Suzan. Suzan is only older than me by a year. We don’t get along most of the time but we are there for each other at all times. She tells me her stories. I tell her my stories. The only thing that I really cannot share with her is my point of view. Although she is unarguable, I do understand why she would act that way in most of the time. My sister was not always like that. Life experiences had changed her just like they change me as well. On the other hand, I believe she needs time to realize that not everyone can follow her vision for life. I believe hard work pays off. I believe that I should only look into what I have and have ambitious to do more. Unlike my sister, she believes some people should not have what they have and it is not fair for others. Well, I can not agree with that.
We all have different experiences in life that teaches us different values. Here we are, two people from the same family, raised in the same way but have different characters and perspectives. I am more goals oriented towards myself, what I have and what I can do. My sister lately has become more concentrated on what others’ have and what they are doing with what they have. For example, she always talks about her friend, who doesn’t work but has everything. She always tells me how her friend complains to her about her problems but never follows her advices. When I told my sister that maybe she talks to you because she considers you her best friend so she trusts you. Then, she tells you because she needs someone to listen to her rather than giving her advices. My sister got really upset. She did not like what I told her. She said that if she will not follow her advices then her friend should not tell her about her problems. This is where it comes the difference in point of views. I believe that her friend’s perspective on talking to someone is different than hers and hers is different than mine. However, when I realized that she will not accept my perspective, I respected hers and changed the subject. Few days later, I saw my sister again, and again we had another disagreement.
Sometimes people are hurt from deep from other things, we just need to understand them and give them the chance so that they could understand themselves. It was a Wednesday morning, my sister and I went to a bakery. I really did not like their thyme bread; however, my sister said everyone likes them and they come from everywhere because it is one of the best bakeries in town. I had to remind my sister that I am pregnant and I do not taste things the same way she does. But at the end, I had to lie so that we do not get into argument again. On the other side, few minutes later, Suzan started to open up about her friend again. I started realizing that she is really jealous of her friend because there are things that she wants to accomplish herself and she cannot do. I was bothered that she would speak about her friend because her friend had stood by her for every time she needed her. However, my sister’s concentration was that her friend doesn’t work, has only two kids, goes out most of the times and buys from expensive stores. Unlike her, who has five kids, could not finish her school since we got pregnant, and has to accommodate her budget of spending. So, I believe that I could not understand my sister as well until I saw her crying on how she has so much to do during the day that she cannot really enjoy by taking a break. Thus, it was important that I do respect her and just listen to her.
Sometimes, I believe we need to listen to others with our hearts and not by our ears. When I look at my sister, I see a great woman, who is constantly thinking of her kids and doing the best for them. However, I believe that I concentrated so much on our differences as she would tell me something that I forgot to remind her of the beautiful things that she had achieved throughout the years. She has four talented kids. Her oldest two are in middle school, in honored classes. Her husband loves her so much and is always there for her. She just had a new born baby girl, who is adorable. On the other side, our parents are not here. It is only my sister and I in America. We have no relatives and we both live far from each other. I do visit my sister so often; however, lately, I couldn’t visit her as much because of the complication throughout my pregnancy. I spoke with my sister that maybe we should try to invite our mother to come and stay with us for a while but then my dad is also having two surgeries this month. Thus, what I realized that my sister had so much feeling of loneliness that I also had in me; however, she expressed it in different way and I was expressing it in different way. So, it is important that we realize that it is not our differences that bring us apart but not valuing our perspectives and others as well.
I believe that now I learned from my sister’s experience that sometimes people do not express their true feelings because they might not be comfortable themselves with it. I believe that sometimes people try to tell us something and we understand it different way and instead of helping them, we make things worse for them. At the end, we all are human but we have different way in looking into things so we feel different towards certain things; thus, I finally believe that I also had not have respected my sister’s point of view quiet well to understand her.
