The Rocket Pitch
you will prepare a 3 minute rocket pitch around an opportunity that you believe has potential and one in which you have PASSION. The rocket pitch can be about any opportunity space; it does NOT have to be about the space we did his fall. The rocket pitch is the distilled essence of your idea. It is meant to convince stakeholders, such as potential co-founders, customers and investors, to support your efforts. In this case, you’re trying to attract your classmates to form a team around your opportunity. You have three slides and three minutes. The slides should follow the basic format below:
1. The Hook – what is the opportunity space (burning problem) that is exciting? Why is there a need/demand in this space?
2. Describe opportunity in some detail.
a. Customer
b. Competitive landscape (3 current solutions)
3. Two rough concepts on how to address this space. Keep in mind that we don’t want you to zero in on a solution too quickly, but provide a sense of what a solution might look like.
4. Call to action – what do you want? (no slide associated with call)
a. Remember this is a first date, not a call to marriage. Don’t ask for money!
b. Most often want a follow-up meeting, or looking for some expertise
Rocket pitches should be highly visual. Little text, mostly pictures that capture the essence of your business opportunity. View the tutorial and the True Jeans pitch for an example. While we don’t expect your pitch to be as polished (it took them several iterations to get to the point you see), we hope that you can mimic their best points.
