In the U.S, wind production has been gradually increasing every year. Since 2014, the U.S. has grown its production by about 45% from 1.728 QBTU in 2014 to roughly 2.5 QBTU in 2019 (The data found only included the first 10 months in 2019 so assuming there was growth from 2018 to 2019 we used 2.5 QBTU for the full year 2019). The consumption of electricity produced from wind power was 100% of production, meaning the U.S consumes all of the electricity produced. This is due to a few possible reasons such as lack of efficient storage capability. There are companies like Tesla who are currently working on more efficient storage batteries to be able to store excess energy produced. With that, it is also possible that the U.S does not currently produce enough electricity to have an excess. Another possibility is due to political pressure and regulations forcing certain companies to use renewable energy before fossil fuels. This can be seen with regulations in electric grid companies having a quota for how much electricity must come from renewable sources. The top producing states for wind energy are Texas, Iowa, Oklahoma, California, Kansas. A similar trait between these states excluding a few regions is that they are relatively flat which gives them a more stable and steady wind supply. Geographic factors such as large mountains affect wind flow patterns and stability.
