Discussions Weeks 9-10
Week 9 Discussion
Your company promoted you to a management position in a new research facility in India. Surprisingly, you have adjusted to the new culture, language, and city, despite never having lived outside the country before. You arrive to work early to get a jump start on your day and notice on the payroll report that there are a few employees who have taken an occasional three-day weekend. None of the employees have taken a full week off, however. You know from previous management training classes that overworked employees are more prone to stress-related health issues and less safe at work. You must also consider the company's bottom line. You want your employees to take more time off work to enjoy time with friends and family, but how? Please respond to the following questions:
· Which motivational theory or theories do you think would help communicate the importance of vacation time to your employees?
· How would you convince your employees that taking time off work is more beneficial in the long run for them and for the company?
Respond to Peer Below:
Hello Professor and everyone,
I think that a motivational theory that I would use, is telling the employees how taking time off and getting some well needed rest will benefit all the employees. Taking time off and being able to go on vacation and spend time with you family if a very important factor when getting time off, and going on vacation with you family. It can makie a big difference when it comes to you work and the mistakes that can be avoided with you job. So taking time off of work is very important to the company and the employee.
Taking time off work is a benefit to the company and the employee. A good and well rested employee can be a great benefit to the company.
Week 10 Discussion
Among the many challenges managers face is providing accurate, timely, and effective feedback to employees. As a manager, how will you ensure you are giving employees the feedback they need to be successful on the job, while still carrying out the strategic plans of the organization? You are a district manager who manages 25 employees in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. You try to see your managers once a month, but when there are issues you constantly have to change your plans. Please respond to the following questions:
· How will you connect with your managers when you don't see them on a daily basis?
· How do you monitor performance and give feedback both positive and negative?
Respond to Peer Below:
To connect with my managers I would create virtual meetings in the weeks in which there is no face to face visit. Since there is only 1 face to face visit, I would plan at least one virtual visit through zoom or webex. For theother 2 weeks of the month I would plan a telephone check in call. This will allow me to be able to keep in constant communication with my managers. By staying in contact with them, it will help me keep a pulse on what is going on with them.
To monitor performance, I would use some sort of reporting system. It would be something that gives me a visual into performance and productivity of the manager. When it comes to feedback, I would start with the portions of the expectations in which the manager is doing well and be sure to highlight those areas and let them know that I appreciate them. For the areas that may not meet expectation, I would present them as areas of opportunity for growth and development. I would ask them if they were experiencing any challenges or roadblocks and we would discuss ways to improve in those areas and create a plan so the next time we meet we can check for measurable results.
