Concert

I went to the concert today. The name is The Tuesday Musicale of Pasadena. Which

located at Pasadena Central Library, Donald R. Wright Auditorium. It started in March 6th 2018

at 12:30pm. It took 2 hours to performance.

I arrived at 12:20pm and when I walked in, there were already a lot of people. Most of

the audiences were old aged woman and man. Who dressed all not that formal, which means

not in a dress or a suit.

To be honest, the first impression for me is I didn’t feel the concert was that formal.

There were foods and snacks at the back of the hall. All the audiences were full of passions,

they seems very happy to be here. I sat at the second last row. They are an organization of

music, the lady first introduced the chairmen and vice president of this musical band and then

she introduced all the performers.

They played 4 different pieces by 4 different groups of performers.

The first one was played by Priscilla Yam, It was a piano piece which called ‘Mozart

Sonata in A.K331” wrote by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The second pieces are called “Sonata

in g minor for Cello and Piano, Opus 19” by Sergei Rachmaninoff and “Hungarian Rhapsody for

Cello and Piano, Opus 68” by David popper which performed by Nancy Friedmann(cello) and

Agatha Hou(Piano). It was strings The third piece is called “Cinco canciones negras” by Xavier

Montsalvatage which performed by Marina Battifora (mezzo soprano) and Geraldine Keeling

(Piano) and the last piece was “Caprice on Danish and Russian Airs, Opis 79 by Camile Saint-

Saens”which performed by Mary Brooks(Flute), Jacqueline Stong(oboe),Trudi Anderson

( Clarinet) and Barbara Burgan( Piano), It was woodwinds.

Those are classical music. Which published around 1700s, classical period and

romantic period. There was notes provided, which have lyrics, sections and other details on it.

My favorite two pieces are Mozart Sonata in A.K331” wrote by Wolfgang Amadeus

Mozart and “Sonata in g minor for Cello and Piano, Opus 19” by Sergei Rachmaninoff and

“Hungarian Rhapsody for Cello and Piano, Opus 68” by David popper

Mozart Sonata in A.K331 is the most familiar piece for me out of 4 of them. The lady were

in a white dress when she performed it. It’s classical period and the three movement is Andante

grazioso, Menuetto & Trio, Allegrino: Alla Turca. it looks 20 minutes to performance. The first

movement is a theme and six vacations. The second movement is a minuet and trio. The

melody is minuet. High pitched. The dynamics is piano, snd then went to forte to fortissimo and

then back to forte to piano again. The rhythm is compand meters and the tempo is adagio at

first and went to allegro. The harmony is pleasing and consonant. It makes me feel happy and

peaceful. The texture is monophonic. It’s only played by one person. The timber is A major, A

minor. The form is variation. The words music relationship is english. She played well for this

pieces, I think she made 2 little mistake, the wrong pitch, but over well wasn’t bad.

“Sonata in g minor for Cello and Piano, Opus 19” by Sergei Rachmaninoff and

“Hungarian Rhapsody for Cello and Piano, Opus 68” by David popper was played by two lady,

they were in matching black flower shirt and black pants. It’s very different with Mozart Sonata in

A.K 331. It has four movements but they only played the first one. It’s Lento- Allegro moderato.

It’s romantic period. The melody is conjunct Low pitched. The dynamics is mezzo piano and

pianissimo. The rhythm is irregular meters and the tempo is adagio. The harmony is sadness.

The texture is polyphonic. The timber is G minor. The form is variation. The words music

relationship is english. Hungarian Rhapsody for Cello and Piano, Opus 68” by David popper. It’s

romantic period. It has pizzicato and harmonies for this pieces, which is the best part I like. The

melody is conjunct and high pitched. The dynamics is forte and fortissimo. The rhythm is

irregular meters and the tempo is adagio. The harmony is sadness. The texture is polyphonic

The tempo is allegro. The form is contrast.

I think the concert wasn't bad. I should do more research on those pieces before I go to

the concert, then I think I’ll understand more when I’m in the concert.

The performance fit my expectations good. I like the music, I can feel the passion out of

every pieces and every performers. This is a elegant event. I think it must be indoor, it gives a

very different feel if it’s indoor event. Everyone were so focus when they are playing the

instrument. I like classic music because this comes from a long time ago, this is an art that we

should always keep up.

For now days, young people don’t listen to classic music anymore, the EDM and pop

music became more poplar, but for the classic music you can hear the passion and story out of

them. The old movies we watched were all with sound with classic music. Classic music

developed and were in a lot of time period. Different musicians came from different countries, all

the classic music has different culture for the background.
