For your final paper in this class, find these items on the Internet and TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS OF VALUE TO THE ARTISTS AND MUSICIANS, AND HOW THEY EXPRESSED IT.

1) For music, listen to the first movement of J.S. Bach's MAGNIFICAT. This is high Baroque!! If you can find a recording on the Internet with Sir John Eliot Gardiner and his Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists. He takes that first movement at a rapid (and thrilling) clip.

2) For art, find Giovanni Bellini's ST. FRANCIS IN THE DESERT. You may want to read up on this wonderful painting; it ties in with the idea that Francis, in intense prayer, received the marks of the Crucifixion of Christ in his hands and feet (you'll see the wounds in the picture)--but what else do you notice in the background?

3) For architecture, look at Melk Abbey, Austria---particularly the church and PARTICULARLY the interior. This is Catholic Baroque architecture---and remember, it was meant to impress the onlookers with the splendor of the Catholic church. Did the architects succeed? TIMES NEW ROMAN, 12 size, double spaced, page numbering (Patel 1) and then go on
