Today, many people have different viewpoints on the topic of the internet today. Some topics concerning the internet has made intense debates developing different opinions even today. Some may ask, is internet addiction a legitimate mental condition? Is unrestricted internet access a modern human right? Like this, one can understand the powerful influence of the internet on human society. While one party might agree on the restriction of internet access, another might think otherwise. One could also agree that the internet causes mental illness, while another could possibly disagree.
Unrestricted internet access has been an ongoing topic for years. One could feel as if internet access should be a modern human right and should be a necessity. Some believe that the Bill of Rights should be changed to fit unrestricted internet access because of the freelance of freedom of speech or expression. Arguing this, one could debate the security of information that has been exposed to public view without accreditation because of the unrestricted internet. Hacking and identity theft have been on the rise because of unrestricted internet access that allows one to roam freely around the world wide web. So, should unrestricted internet access a modern human right? All these requests and changes require ample amount of time to read over and discuss among all American internet users.
Although unrestricted internet access is an important topic, internet addiction could be far more ill. In the research of internet addiction, it is told that the internet is just a medium to help you achieve your addiction. Internet addiction is not written in the DSM-5 as a diagnosis of an illness at all. Moreover, the internet just helps one fulfill the desire of their addiction and is only used to mediate. One could disagree and imply that if there was no internet there would be no addiction. Then ultimately where did the addiction come from? Was it the access of the internet that caused the addiction? Or was it the desire of one’s heart? These factors leave researchers and scientist stumped on labeling the internet as a mental illness or not.
