Cover Letter and Grant Proposal

This is the finale of all of your hard work. Pat yourself on the back. You have made it to the end. Review the  Sample Cover Letter in your textbook (p. 98), and write a cover letter that will present the grant proposal to the selected funder. In the letter, briefly introduce the organization making the request. Ensure that you highlight the support of your board of directors and specifically indicate the financial request you are seeking (i.e., how much and for what). Follow the instructions and place each section in the correct sequence. Also ensure all corrections have been made before submission.

The Final Paper for this course is a grant proposal written to obtain funds for a social need or problem identified in Week One. A specific section of the grant proposal will be completed each week. Incorporate the feedback from your peers and instructor as appropriate. The final grant proposal will be completed in Week Five.

The following resources will help you create a grant proposal:

· Grant Proposal Template   Download Grant Proposal Template- use this pre-formatted, APA-style template to create your grant proposal. It includes a budget table on the last page to use when crafting your own budget.

· Sample Grant Proposal   Download Sample Grant Proposal- view this sample grant proposal as an example of a completed proposal.

Writing the Grant Proposal:

Your proposal must be well-written, detailed, and well-organized. Be sure to follow the funder’s directions precisely. Grant proposal writing is a competitive process. In the real world, the funder will be looking at many other proposals besides yours, so make sure that yours stands out from the rest. Simple responses to bulleted items in each section below are not sufficient. Your grant proposal should be in a narrative format.

Keep in mind that your challenge is to organize into a coherent narrative the information that you have collected and the work that you have accomplished during the previous weeks. Thus, consider the following steps:

· Review the  Grant Proposal Template  and  Sample Grant Proposal   Download Sample Grant Proposaldocuments to ensure that the organization of the proposal is clear in your mind.

· Review all the work that you have accomplished during the previous weeks, and enter the text that you have generated into the appropriate sections of the grant proposal template.

· Imagine that you are asked to complete a puzzle. Each piece (i.e., text you have written) needs to fit with all the others. Thus, make suitable changes to your earlier text, including adding and deleting words, sentences and paragraphs, so that all fits into a coherent narrative.

· Keep in mind that good writing heavily depends on revising. Thus, after you have completed the entire document, take a one day break from it. Then proofread the entire proposal, making all changes you deem necessary.

Your Final Paper must include the following sections:

Cover letter for the Grant Proposal (approximately a page) which includes:

· Name of the organization making the request

· Brief description the organization’s history

· Description of the involvement of the board of directors in the implementation of the proposal

· Concluding paragraph stating how the funds will be used

See an example of a  Cover Letter.

Use the  Grant Proposal Template   Download Grant Proposal Template to complete all other sections of your proposal. Also rely on the content of the assignments that you have completed during the course. Keep in mind that although you can use the text you have previously written, you will need to take into account the feedback that you have received and organize all information into a coherent narrative. Thus, you may have to rewrite and re-organize text to ensure coherence and readability.
