Assignment: Each student is to prepare a PowerPoint presentation about two assigned infectious diseases.

Guidelines for PowerPoint presentation:

· Must be saved as a PowerPoint document and saved as last name and diseases (ex. Miranda polio, measles)

· Because this is only a PowerPoint presentation, all information must be on your slides and be self-explanatory. When you have a picture in your slides, you will need to put a caption underneath explaining the image. However, do not use large paragraphs as this is not an essay paper. Powerpoint presentations should use bullet points rather than complete paragraphs.

· Should be visually appealing (use color, nice backgrounds, pictures (gross is good))

· Topics for each disease must include:

1. Name of disease (scientific and other common names)

2. Brief history

3. Name and Description of the etiological agent. You should include a picture of the organism and describe it. Ex. Gram positive or Gram negative, what kind of virus, etc.

4. Signs and symptoms

5. Pathogenesis and virulence factors (What damage is done to the body by this organism and what adaptations does the organism have that allow it to do that damage?)

6. Transmission: How is the disease spread? What is the portal of entry?

7. Epidemiology (includes morbidity, mortality, and prevalence rates for the diseases. Often includes maps or graphs.)

8. Culture and diagnosis (How is the diagnosis made? What tests are run?)

9. Prevention

10. Treatment

11. Something interesting about the disease (ex . Do you have a personal story about it?, Did someone famous has it? Is there a song or poem about it?)

· Slides to include (at least):

1. Cover slide with the name of diseases and your name

2. At least 12 additional slides (6 per disease)

3.  Slide with at least 3 reliable references with proper APA formatted bibliographies (can use the textbook as one resource)   Do not use Wikipedia (not a reliable source). You must use at least one non-internet resource.

Do not plagiarize the material from any source, including the internet. All material needs to be documented (including pictures). If a person is caught plagiarizing, he/she will receive a zero for the assignment.
