1) Pick a particular pollutant and write a simple essay on it. Consider its source(s), its distribution and fate in the environment, and its consequence in terms of ecosystem services and function.

2) Discuss the problem of plastics in the global ecosystem. Why are they of concern? What are the current issues involving with their distribution?

3) Choose a source of energy and its use in modern cultures. What are the consequences of this use? Document the trends over the past and expected future of the use of this energy source.

4) Read the attached notice on a permit from the state to FPL to remedy saline intrusions in the Biscayne aquifer by pumping into a deeper formation. Write a summary of the issues behind this permit. Comment on arguments concerning its authorization. (See attached file)
