1. A researcher was interested in whether students learn more from highly structured lectures or unstructured lectures. Twenty-four participants were randomly assigned to a condition where they attended a lecture that was either highly structured (n=12) or unstructured (n=12). The participants were also asked to report their overall motivation for the class, and then were either classified into a highly motivated group (n=12) or a low motivation group (n=12). Participants were then taught about a specific topic and the students were given an exam on the material presented.
Open the ‘Homework 11 Dataset_S19.sav’ file for this problem.
To conduct a 2-way ANOVA, go to Analyze>General Linear Model>Univariate. Place your DV in the “Dependent Variable” box and your IVs in the “Fixed Factor(s)” box. Under Options, choose both IVs and their interaction and transfer them to “Display Means For” box. Also, under Plots, create a graph. Choose Structure to be on the horizontal axis, and separate lines for motivation (Low vs. High). Make sure to click “Add” and see the variables show up in the lower box before clicking to Continue. Click OK on the next screen to run the test.
