Discussion Post on How do I see myself as a Leader? What are my strengths?  What are my weaknesses? Answer the questions and respond to 3 other students.

Respond1:

I am the type of leader who takes initiative. I am a planner when it comes to my education and professional selves, so I prefer to have it all organized, planned out, and delegated. I like to see myself as a sociable, genuine person who gets along with others easily. I have no problems picking up the less enjoyable work like writing reports, editing invoices, and taking notes. I find enjoyment in prepping for team meetings; I like to address anything I see as an issue quickly, and I try my best to explain my reasoning to people on why I arrive to the decisions I do. I possess an analytical mind yet I am a very outgoing person in social and problem solving situations.

But I am also the type of person who could not be bothered what others think of me beyond how I in the moment see it benefiting me. While I have no issues delegating, when people take on an insufficient amount of work, I take on the remainder and tend not to be upset about it. While I am good at communicating, I sometimes lose all desire to even finish a sentence and sometimes stop talking in the middle of it and just go back to what I was doing (this really only manifests in my talks with friends and my fiance and he thinks it just the best). If I enjoy the work or task that I am doing I bury myself in it but if I have no interest, I tend to spend as little time as possible on it.

Overall, I think I am a fine leader. Easy to get along with, understanding with personal issues and when someone has trouble accomplish their work, I like to teac them of pair them with someone who can. I am very thorough, sometimes to a fault. Yet other times, I do the bare minimum necessary to have something functional. I am diligent, Yet can be care free. I am a well spoken, clear, and thoughtful communicator but sometimes, I just -

I feel as myself to be a leader that leads by example. I also view myself as the type of leader that wouldn't ask someone to do something if I wasn't willing to do the work myself. I used to work as a behavior technician lead in a hospital and my job was to ensure that the staff that worked under me was doing their groups, making sure our patients were safe and there were no issues on the unit. At times we were short staffed or we've had some extreme cases in which I would take over. I felt that even though I was in a higher position nothing put me above anyone else that I worked with. I feel like being a leader takes more than just leadership it takes accountability and responsibility.

As far as my strengthens I would say that I lead by example. I try my best to be very hard working and someone that my fellow coworkers can come to when they need anything in the work setting. I feel that I am one that is good at giving feedback and not panicking under pressure and always trying to go the extra mile.

as far as my weaknesses I would say that I am extremely critical of myself. i'm one that puts a lot of the burden on myself or I tend to second guess myself even if I am right in my decision making but I would definitely say that I am a good leader

In order to determine how and why I see myself as a leader, I first need to understand what a leader is and what it means to me. To me, a leader is someone others looks to for guidance. Leadership can be through example, empathy, experience, and/or more. Additionally, I think a proper leader makes a connection between their leadership and inclusion with other individuals. It requires progressive attention to others and their beliefs/customs in order to be an effective leader to them.

Understanding what leadership means to me, I can now understand the type of leader I am. I am a risk-taking, empathetic, innovative leader who tries to bring people together to work towards a common goal. The most effective leaders in my eyes are the ones who truly connect with their people and make inclusion a key factor in their art. Some of my strengths include being consistent, constantly wanting to grow and learn, and understanding others on a deep and personal level to elevate them and the team to achieve a common goal. One of my biggest weaknesses includes the lack of real world experience- I am only 23 years old. This will obviously change as I grow older, but for now this is a weakness to me because I think a great amount of knowledge comes from experience. Thankfully, I will be exposed to that in my future.

This was a very interesting reflection for me and I learned a lot from the past readings, lectures, and PowerPoints.

Thanks for reading!
