Introduction

The advancement of technology creates the worry among people about security risks as the incidences of cyber-crimes in the country continue to take place. The utilization of the internet for personal gains have resulted in several security breaches that have led to the creation of financial damages to individuals (Bella, 2017). Taking the necessary precautions by placing the necessary security protocol is a common trend that people focus on to reduce the rate of cybercrime within institutions and personal social media account.

The Home Depot security incident is an issue that affected me in a direct manner. cybercriminals applied malware that was custom built and hacked to the credit cards of the company customers. The action affected me directly based on the fact that I was one of the individuals that were directly affected as $12,300 was stolen from my card. The lack of the necessary security protocols against such attacks made the company vulnerable to the attack which is a collective action that the company needs to take up precautionary measures (Bella, 2017). Implementing practices that are focused on the identification of such attacks is an action that Home Depot needs to be keen at implementing.

The custom-built malware led to the loss of $56 million through credit card codes and numbers. The incident took a period of three months making it the largest breach on retail cards that the country has ever experienced. The incidence led to the loss of 53 million addresses that belonged to the customers of the company. If the company had organized security protocols the risk of hacking would not have taken place leading to the loss of millions of dollars among the loyal customers of the company.
