HMD 253 Distance Education Course – Service Encounter PowerPoint Project

Requirements: Students will take the skills they have learned in this service class and create a PowerPoint Presentation involving a real service encounter they experienced during the semester. The service experience can be bad or good, but the encounter must be detailed out in the PowerPoint and concepts developed in this course must be applied. You are the customer for this project. Employee points of view are not the purpose of this project. The service encounter must be within the last 6 months and must have occurred in Las Vegas. Details of location and time are required. This project is worth 50 points. Your experience can be at anything related to our industry such as a food establishment or a hotel. It can occurred anytime in the last 6 months and must be in Las Vegas. For questions or inquires about an experience outside of Las Vegas (maybe during our last semester break) please private message the professor. I will not accept an experience that has not occurred in the last 6 months. You MUST get prior permission if you wish to discuss an encounter outside of Las Vegas.

*Note: This business must be different from your Servicescape Paper.

Project Grading: A minimum of 25 slides must be used to adequately detail your experience. Slides should be in a logical order that details your experience from beginning to end. Keep slides from being to “wordy”. (I do have a few overly wordy ones on the policy presentation for required material from CSN. Avoid that in your project). Use indentions and spacing so professor can easily follow your experience. PowerPoints should be free from major grammatical and spelling errors. Points will be taken if professor cannot understand what you are writing. The following questions must be answered in your project:

· Detail the presentation of the service encounter that was experienced.

· What was the problem or quality attribute?

· What was the feeling of the experience?

· Did you notify management of the problem or quality attribute?

· How did this experience relate to training of the employee?

· How did this experience relate to your expectations?

· Detail where your expectations for this business came from.

· Where your expectations met?

· How did this experience relate to your sense of satisfaction?

· What problems arose (if any)?

· Were the outcomes of the service recovery to your satisfaction?

· How did this experience affect other customers or members in your group?

· Is this experience something you would want for your hotel?

· Will you return

Detailed Experience was Presented

Platform Requirements and Turn-in: Students will create a detailed, well developed PowerPoint presentation of the service encounter they experienced. Students are encouraged to add pictures of the actual experience. Videos are discouraged for time and technology limitations. Students must use Microsoft PowerPoint for this project (if you use another type of presentation platform I must be able to view it. CSN computers and my personal computer are NOT Macs)! Other platforms are acceptable as long as you do a “test send” via CANVAS e-mail. I will check it and make sure I can view your work. You must do this before the due date if you are using other platforms than PowerPoint. No test send is required for stand PowerPoint platforms. The completed Project must be turned in via CANVAS in the designated assignment upload section. Points will be taken if you submit your completed project in any other way. There is NO guarantee your project will be graded if it is submitted in any other place other than the designated assignment folder found on CAVAS LMS. Using professors CSN mail or Canvas Mail will not be considered acceptable and project may not be graded.
