Written Problems (50 points): Due: 12:45PM – Thursday, September 21st

Write your name, the assignment name (HW #3), and the due date at the top of the

first page of each assignment. Rewrite each non-WebWork problem, show and label

your steps and your calculations (for possible partial credit), and rewrite each

question asked with the answer for each part in a box. Number all problems and

put them in order in your assignment. Staple multiple pages together. You will not

get credit if your work is difficult to follow or the answer with units in a box is not

easily seen or if these directions aren’t followed.

4. (10 pts each) By combining the resistances, determine the current produced by the

voltage source. Then find the current through each resistor and finally the voltage Vx in

part (a), V1 in part (b) and ig in part (c).

5. (20 pts) Calculate Vx and the equivalent resistance in the circuit schematic below if i0 =

3A. Does the equivalent resistance go up or down if the 8 Ohm resistor is increased in

value? Does Vx go up or down if i0 is still 3A and 8 Ohm resistor is increased in value?
