Assessment type;

Discussion

Word limit/length; 650 words

Learning Outcomes

This assessment task is aligned to the following learning outcomes:

· describe and critique the components of various healthcare systems/policies/practices and population health outcomes

· systematically analyse the range of social, cultural, environmental, economic, and political factors which impact healthcare systems

Assessment details

Describe a healthcare system or policy or practice that you usually work in or you are aware of/familiar with. This system, policy or practice can be broad (e.g., at a state, national, international level) or more specific (e.g., at a local, community or organisational level)

a) Design a concept map or causal loop to represent the key elements of the chosen health system/policy/practice. In your figure, your basic key elements should include drivers/inputs, stakeholders, as well as outcomes. It is important that you clearly link/connect these factors to represent how they influence one another.

b) Explain your figure by briefly discussing the key interconnected elements and outcomes of the system, policy, or practice. In this discussion, you can talk about strengths and weaknesses of the system, as well as any positive or negative outcomes.

You may use some parts of this assignment for the next assessments (No rephrasing is required for using the content of your assignments within the same unit).

Notes:

· Please refer to HL READING 1&2 where Healthcare systems/policies and their components are defined/explained.

Please refer to HL READING 3 - 5 for information on system representing tools of concept maps and causal loops. You may use any visual medium to represent the system and the relationships between key elements but remember that systems are often not simply

· linear. For example, you can use arrows, linking words, or +/- to represent a positive or negative influence.

· There are plenty of concept mapping and causal loop tools/makers online that you can use to create your visual system representation. Alternatively, you can simply use Microsoft word.

Check the structure, format, grammar, punctuation, flow, and coherence of your assignment.

Assignment structure

There can be variations in preparing your assignment. However, the below outline is suggested

You can present many factors in your visual map but you do not need to cover all of these in your written explanation. You can choose to focus on a few factors and their relationships, or on the outcomes/outputs of the systems, or on some strengths or limitations of the system for example.

But if there is a specific reason you have them in a certain order like abcd then the reader might assume that there is a logical flow

· Represent and describe a health system/policy/practice and its outcomes

· References (minimum of 5
