In at least three paragraphs please answer the following question. Although some poor southern whites resented the dominance of the "slaveocracy" most supported the institution and accepted the power of the planter class. Why did the poorer classes of white people continue to support the slave system even though they did not own slaves and thus did not benefit from the institution of slavery?
