2. Roser, M., & Ospina, E. O. (2017). World population growth. Retrieved from https://ourworldindata.org/world-population-growth/
Two hundred years ago there less than one billion humans living on health, but currently the number has risen to over seven billion. This article analyses how the world population has grown over the years from 1750-2010, as well as the projections up to 2100 due to various factors among them being the improved medical care. The population grew slowly for thousands of years, but in the recent centuries, it grew drastically. The population growth is due to the increased birth rates, the lowered death rate due the better health care among other factors. This explains why the countries in the developed nations like those in North America have lower mortality rates as compared to developing nations in Asia and Africa because the majority of those in the developed nations can access and afford medical care unlike those from the developing ones.
3. Science Museum. (2017). Technology and medicine. Retrieved from http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/broughttolife/themes/technologies
The article provides insight into the historical association of technology with medicine. The article explores how the technology has enabled the field of medicine to function through the invention of various medical instruments such as the kidney machine that was invented by Milton Roy in 1966, the usage of electrical machines as therapy in the 1800s, the discovery of X-rays in 1895 among others. The article also explores the use of computerized machines in monitoring patients and tracking their records. Additionally, the article explores how machines gave rise to specialist medical practitioners, the gradual acceptance of technology and the limits on the usage of technology within medicine.
4. Science Museum. (2017). Science and medicine. Retrieved from http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/broughttolife/themes/science
The article explores how science has enabled medicine to fulfill its purpose historically and presently. Scientists at the frontiers of medical research observe nature with twin aims of uncovering facts and formulating laws. This admirable work inevitably involves making very detailed observations of the human body and its disease. This article explores the use of dissection from the 2nd century CE, experimentation that led to the discovery of blood circulation, the composition of science, the introduction of laboratories in the 1800s and the role of chance in medical discoveries. The article also gives the insight into the new scientific principles and new understanding after the 1900s as well as the ethical issues associated with the new solutions.
