The Events of the “Roaring Twenties”

It is evident that quite a number of people had described the “Roaring Twenties” as one of the most exciting times when there were many political and social changes. However, it is also important to note that the period eventually came to an end resulting in the Great Depression. The Great Depression, in turn, gave birth to a series of social, political and economic events that in one way or the other affected the country (Law, 25). During the duration of the roaring twenties, the Americans decided to move into cities instead of staying in rural places. In addition to this, the wealth of the country is said to have doubled during these periods. The Roaring Twenties were signified by some of the events that include the jazz age, prohibition, the new woman and the cultural civil war.

During the 1920s, it has been described that the Americans were facing tough times in what could only be regarded as the dark days. One of the primary focus of the politicians and most of their supporters was to ensure that they get to remove any of the ideas or policies that had been identifying to be un-American (Law, 25). It is therefore essential to note that the primary target of the United States was to do away with policies such as communism, socialism, and anarchism. A decade before the events of the 1920s, it is also critical to point out the fact that President McKinley had been assassinated by an individual who had been identified as an anarchist.

Other two Italians that had been identified as anarcho-socialists were arrested fin 1921 on accusations that they had murdered an American citizen.

Later on, the names of the two individuals were disclosed to be Bartolomeo Vanzetti and Nicola Sacco. This is a clear indication that the United States had embarked on a war mission against the anarchists and the communists. During these periods of time, it is important to note that much more political unrests took place in the area. However, it is still evident that during the period, the United States of America saw quite a number of transformation (Moore, 33). These changes in the economy were on the other hand enjoyed by the wealthy class only.

As from 1920 to 1921, it is also essential to note that the farm prices had fallen at a catastrophic rate. In most of the places in the United States of America, some products such as the wheat, cotton, and rice had fallen almost by half the initial prices (Wright & James, 983). However, it is still essential to indicate that there was a bright and great division between the haves and the have not. In this incident, it was the farmers who had significantly been affected by the high levels of free-market capitalism in the region. Conclusively, what has been described the 1920s is that it was an excellent time for the rich people and somehow the middle-class citizens (Wright & James, 983). However, it cannot go unmentioned that most of the people that suffered during this period were those of the lowest class or the poor.
