Condorcet, Future Progress of the Human Mind

· Does Rousseau’s “Social Contract” describe a governance system consistent with the Magna Carta? The aims of the rebelling English Peasants in 1381? The English Bill of Rights? Does it grant more or fewer rights to individuals?

I think the governance system gave fewer rights to the people at that time. Starting off with the English Peasants, they were really poor in their time. They didn’t have much wealth in the senses of buying lands like the other individuals and sometimes tough to even feed themselves. On top of this matter, they were imposed high taxes. This gave a big burden on the people which then resulted in violence. The peasants found it unfair because they had nothing to give and were being punished for not giving.

For the concerns of bill of rights, this is when King James II was making decisions without consulting the parliament. He didn’t agree with the fact of how the bill of rights were involving individuals making a decision making process, rather how the king should be above the law. But the bill of rights purpose was to have the King be below the law and to support the rights and Freedom Freedom of individuals. These were issues with consulting the parliament first before anything and giving certain individual rights to one another such as, free to speak their mind without being interrupted, Freedom Freedom to elect the Member of Parliament that they wish. I’m so sorry—this answer addresses some of the comparative issues I’ve asked you to consider, but doesn’t really discuss Rousseau; please review Grafton/Bell, pp. 505-506; 516-530 (-7)

· Based upon what we have studied this semester, do you consider Condorcet’s assertions about the progress of the human mind to have been justified? Why or why not?

He made many perspectives of how the mind was viewed in. Starting with how the mind works with cognition, perception, thoughts and imagination. How the mind is within the brain working with cognitive sciences such as, philosophy, psychology, and religion is all about the human mind. How the senses can change with how everyone’s unconscious sides are always changing.

So I do believe it has been justified from the way he explains the function of how the mind works with every different point of aspect. The excerpt you have been assigned doesn’t really talk about the mind; it talks about Condorcet’s belief in human ingenuity. Please review the assigned reading (-8)
