Hist2613: Explorations in World History and Culture:

Demonstrate what you have learned about the histories and cultures of greater Eurasia. Reflect critically upon what you have learned. It must be in full, complete sentences showing me what you know (who, what, when, where, why, and how) based on the lectures, PowerPoint presentations, and, when, appropriate, the assigned readings. Below is the essay question you need to complete based on the above instruction. It should be within 700-800 words.

Essay Question

1) Write an essay that analyzes the historical trajectory of the small Jesus cult from the first century of the common era to its “conquest” of Rome and eventual expansion to all of Europe. What were the features of this new religious movement? To what extent was it similar to or different from other religions circulating at the time? Besides being “true” (in the religious sense), what can you identify as reasons why Christianity succeeded? Be as historically accurate as possible in your response.
