Examination One

General Instructions:

Answer one question from each section of this examination. You may only use assigned readings and lectures to answer the questions for this examination. In particular, be sure to use and quote from at least two course readings in each of your answers. Please use parenthetical citations with the author’s last name and page number, i.e. (Schlereth, 152). No footnotes or bibliography are necessary. You do not need to cite information from lectures. All text should be Times New Roman 12 point font, double spaced, and with one inch margins. Your will submit your answers using the Exam One assignment link available on the eLearning page for your discussion section. You may submit your answers anytime on Monday, September 20, 2021.

1. Why did the English begin colonizing North America? Consider economic, social, and ideological considerations.

2. How did interactions between English colonists and Native Americans shape the histories of the Chesapeake and New England colonies?
