HIS 118 Milestone One Guidelines and Rubric Introduction and Outline
Prompt: In Module Two, you worked with your instructor to narrow your focus and develop a thesis statement. In this module, you will build upon your foundation to craft the introduction of your final project and a topic outline. In addition, you will need to support your ideas with at least three reputable resources; these resources need to be presented in a bibliography using Turabian format. Each item will help you in the development of your rough draft, which is due in Module Five.
This submission will include the following items:
• Draft Introduction to Final Project The introduction is a general overview of what this paper will accomplish. It must contain your thesis statement, which clearly states your completion of the following statement: “Globalization affected the development of modern states from 1500 to the present because...” and introduces at least two regions you will use as examples to prove your thesis in this paper (chosen in Module One). A thesis statement may be one or more sentences in length in order to fully provide your completion of the statement. The introduction and thesis statement set up the argument that you will try to prove throughout the rest of the paper through the use of research-based examples, specific details, and careful analysis. Your introduction needs to be written in paragraph format using full sentences. Review this resource on how to develop an introduction.
• Topic Outline of Your Final Project A topic outline arranges your ideas into your major points and gives some indication of how you will support your major points using evidence and specific examples (subpoints). The major points of your paper need to support your thesis statement. Reference the Milestone One Template document for information on formatting and requirements. As you can see from the template, you do not need to have all of the details of your paper finalized at this point. Your outline provides you with an opportunity to organize your thoughts, to make sure no major elements are missing, and to get feedback from your instructor before moving on to the rough draft.
• Sources and Bibliography Your bibliography for Milestone One must contain at least two secondary resources and one primary resource that you will use to support your thesis statement. Make sure each resource is formatted correctly using Turabian style. For information on Turabian style, review the following resources: Shapiro Library Chicago Style Basics and Purdue OWL Chicago Manual of Style 17th Edition.
If you have any questions at this stage of the project, include them in the submission or reach out directly to your instructor.
Guidelines for Submission: Milestone One should be submitted as a Microsoft Word document with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins, and at least three sources cited in Turabian format.
