Dining Room Etiquette

Project Description:

1. Emily Post is a famous American author, who is best known for writing books on etiquette and manners. As a class watch the following video about table manners and discuss how they have changed over time. Are there any special table manners in your country? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSaMtjRmpqM

2. There have been some restaurants that do not allow their guests to talk on their smart phones while dining. Work in groups of 3-4 and discuss if you agree or disagree with this policy. Why? What would your policy be on smart phones in the dining room if you own a restaurant? Share the results of your discussion with the rest of the class.

3. To quote Emily Post, “Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others. If you have that awareness, you have good manners, no matter what fork you use”. In 2 paragraphs, describe what this quote means to you. Do you agree or disagree with it?
