High Performing Work Team Analysis
SPRING 2022
This assignment is worth 20% of your final grade. It gives you an opportunity to analyze a survey tool used to assess the performance of a team. You must complete this assignment individually, without seeking advice from other students, and you may not use a paper or any part of a paper from a previous class or from another person or an online source. If you have any questions about this assignment, please post them in the Ask the Professor discussion platform, so that everyone can benefit from the answers. The assignment addresses Course Objectives 3, 4 and 5.
Organizations often use surveys or questionnaires to obtain information regarding employee satisfaction, organizational issues impacting staff performance, and perceptions of pay and benefits, organizational culture, etc. Many times, the survey questions provide people with new or relevant insight into what the organization expects from its employees.
The Scenario
You are to draw upon experience with a team. Keep in mind that this team may be memorable because it is considered successful--or, it is a team that has not performed well, but somehow accomplished some of its goals. Consider using the 1st week’s content-related discussion, in which you posted an example of a familiar team.
Your Task
Read the items listed in the High Performing Work Teams Survey, located at the end of this document.
Answer the survey items using your team example. Jot down notes.
As you think about the survey items, some of the responses will come easily--they were clearly observable. Others may result in you thinking “I don’t know”—these items were not easy to observe.
Take the analysis of the survey further: Use these questions to describe and explain --
1. What team behaviors and values were more easily observable, based on your thinking? Add researched theory and ideas from your readings to explain more of your thoughts. Make certain you include in-text cites to “signal” use of research.
2. What team behaviors and values were not easy to observe, or left you thinking “I don’t know” ? Research and then Include ideas to support your thinking. Make certain you include in-text cites to “signal” use of research.
3. How is diversity and inclusion addressed--or not? Review the survey items for use of these words, or terms you informally associate with diversity and inclusion. Explain your position.
Writing the Paper:
Begin with a review of your notes, based on the survey questions and your observations.
Draft 4 sections
1.Start with a section that provides a detailed overview of your team example—purpose of the team, time frame for team activities, number of team members, and what happened.
2.Then add a section about more easily observable survey items and discuss or explain the values those items represent, incorporating relevant details from the team example.
3.Add a new section that describes less easy to observe survey items and write about details from your example.
4.Discuss whether the survey adequately addresses diversity and inclusion aspects of team work.
Provide a 1-paragraph conclusion that summarizes key points.
Insert a paragraph at the beginning of your paper that introduces the purpose of the essay.
Write 4-7 pages (not counting the cover or reference pages), summarizing the observations you identified. Support your opinions and statements with five (5) or more references.
Please add the following statement to the cover of your paper:
This paper is my own work that I created specifically for this course and this section. All research or material I used in preparing this paper has been properly acknowledged within the assignment in accordance with academic standards for complete and accurate citation of sources.
