Describe the role of the staff nurse in promoting quality in a high-performing health care organization
Nurses are an essential part of the staff at a high-performing health care organization. Nurses are responsible for the overall care, coordination, and direction of patient care. It includes providing assessments that include physical examinations, diagnostic studies, diagnosing potential problems and developing treatment plans across the continuum of healthcare (Schmidt & McArthur, 2018). The staff nurse also guides others providing nursing services, including administering medications or other treatments ordered by a physician or other providers involved in the patients' care.
Define the organizational culture of your health care organization, or one with which you are familiar, and identify the leadership style of the CEO and CNO in your organization
Explain how your senior leadership supports—or does not support—changes that require financing/budget to support patient safety
Because each health care organization is unique, its mission and vision statements, leadership style, organizational culture, and financial restraints will play a significant role in the changes implemented at their organization. My senior leadership was very supportive of implementing change at my organization. If it would affect the organization's operations or if it fell into line with the mission of this health care organizational culture to do so, they were initially very supportive of making any changes for improvement (Giddens, 2018). The CNO further explained to me how depending on how much effort was put into making these changes (such as educating staff members about new safety procedures), they could affect performance through cost savings.
Describe the strategies you might be able to implement to move your health care organization to a high-performing organization
Many different strategies can be used to move an organization from low-performing to high-performing. Some of the critical factors that I could implement at my health care organization would have been to have a solid organizational structure in place and clearly define what each position is responsible for, from the CEO position down to the front desk receptionist (Raghubir, 2018). Another strategy would be using a participative leadership style. Each group in the health care organization has a vested interest in each other's success and is proud of their accomplishments. Engaging all staff members through open communication, purposeful training programs, and access to information through technology will help foster a thriving team environment within the hospital walls.
