The Effects of Technology on Events in The Last Couple of Years
Introduction Technology has advanced a lot in every field that can be imagined. It has progressed from
the nanotechnology to chips that are remotely controlled. Technology has changed and expanded
at a fast rate that has never been experienced before. It has changed the way people socialize, the
way they consume and it is even changing the way events are organized and attended. Significant
changes have been seen in the last few years in conferences and events. These are changes that
have stuck. We are past the days of using mailing lists and brochures. The internet and other
developments in the technology have dominated the path to the success of events. Since its
inception, the events industry has come a long way due to many factors but most especially due
to the advancements in technology which are significant to the industry (Sherlocks &
O’Connor,2014). Tech is currently driving all sectors due to its ability to get things done which
fast-paced. The events industry is not new to this fact. In the recent years, the landscape of
ticketing is almost difficult to recognize. The latest technological trends and the various
innovations in the industry have led to a significant evolution in the industry. The consumers
always remain at the center although the technology is now becoming the driving force that
pushes the expectations of the customers and creates a need for change. This paper is aimed at
discussing the various effects that technology has had on events for the last couple of years.

Problem Statement This research is aimed at helping in understanding more about how technology is
impacting on the events industry. Technology is one area that is facing a lot of continuous
growth, changes and development and so is the events industry. It, therefore, becomes necessary
to make use of technology to help in improving the events industry which is common in each
culture. Events have been important in the society throughout history as a way of celebrating and
as a sign of transformations that can be well noted in the existence of an individual. Industries
that are varied like the events industry involve several factors which are uncontrollable which
affect every area. The elements that are uncontrollable relates to the external environment.
Events are central to every culture, and therefore it is essential to seek to understand them as well
as the factors affecting them. There is a boom in the events industry following increases in
discretionary spending and leisure time. While the demand in the events industry has been on a
private trend, it has become essential to improve the experiences of the attendees, and here
innovation becomes a key factor to the success of the industry.
This project exists and has been studied before by other scholars. However, a re-implementation
is necessary to learn more about the various technological advancements in the recent past and
how they are impacting on the events industry.
Problem Solution According to Strom (2012), technology has an impact on every aspect of the life of an
individual starting from communication to entertainment, and it is continuing in its development
and changes on a day to day basis as a result of various developments and innovation. These
factors affect the events industry. As the new technologies emerge, competitors in the industry
have to adapt to the changes or they will no longer compete. Firms make use of technology to

stay close to their customers using such engines as the social media to create awareness and
make use of websites for sharing information and for purposes of collaboration. The
developments in technology can have efficiency as well as affectivity effects on the events
industry. Companies, therefore, need to have a proper understanding of technology and its
various advancements to stay in the competition. This might include having to take their staff for
training to equip them with the necessary knowledge regarding the technological advancements
and their application in the events industry.
Literature Review The growth in the events industry makes technology necessary to meet the expectations of the
consumers and make the production of events more accessible. The new advancements in
technology make a difference for the people who attend events across the world as well as have
incredible changes in the industry. The following are some of the technological advancements
and features that are important to the events industry;
Internet
The internet comprises many computers and networks which distribute information
globally. It gives an opportunity for communication with audiences and endorsing events
(Goldblatt,2008). The event's organizers embrace and manipulate aspects which are available
from the utilization of the web tools like social networks, search engines and photo sharing to do
their global marketing, for productivity as well as planning. It is essential for the event
organizers to accept technology because it is critical in event planning and changes the
organization as well as the experience of events. The internet makes it possible to access the
world wide web which is an internet service which is used in the browsing of the websites. It is

however not possible to access the network without the use of the internet. The internet
accessibility makes the gathering and communication of competitors easier. Communication
involves the conveyance of information using different routes to share with the relevant parties.
Communication makes it possible to have better judgment, resolve problems in a better way,
more productivity, and forming associations (Sherlocks & O’Connor,2014).
Social N etw orking
Social networking is an online platform which allows the formation as well as a change of
relationships between the organizers and attendees of events. The increase in the importance of
the social media in the events industry is because people do not like being talked at.
Papagiannospoulos et al (2009) asserts that the presence of social networks and including
presence online modernize the way in which the events make sure that security is enhanced,
there is effective planning and administration so as to increase the value of the possible attendees
as well as heighten their experience as they allow facilitation of communication, information
sharing and registering for events (Sherlocks & O’Connor,2014).
Phot o Sharing
According to Hackling (2011), it is essential to deliver images of events to encourage
people to participate and increase sales before the date of an event to enhance attendance. Photos
go along way as compared to just plain texts. They tend to catch the attention of more people and
hence, one is assured of a right turn up for an event. The sharing of the photos with multitudes of
people cannot be possible without technology.
Search Engine s
Technology 8
These are places on the internet that people use to search for different things which are
related to various issues. People can use the search engines such as Google to locate a particular
event. Millions of people make use of the Google search engine and therefore, event's organizers
can use this platform to optimize on the number of attendees. That is by ensuring that their
functions are top of the list whenever customers search for anything related to the events
(Sherlocks & O’Connor,2014).
Tickets G o Mobil e
Mobile is affecting every industry, and the events industry has also not been left behind.
The innovation of tickets has come with the systems used for buying tickets. Ticketing involves
the establishment of a pint of touch with fans. Mobile ticketing makes tickets available to all
people and at all locations. It also allows the vendors to do much more than they did in the past
(Eugenio,2017).
Technology in the current ages has expanded in significance and has had an important
role to play in the growth, feasibility, and growth of numerous events. Using the technology in
the events business means expert preparation, better and reliable implementation as well as
greater conveyance along with the advantage of globalization. The growth I the communication
technology, linking of information, as well as the internet and internationalization and other
innovations, have had effects on how events are marketed and have led to a worldwide chance to
penetrate other markets. Technology is changing continuously and evolving hence the shaping
the events business is also simultaneously changing. Technology gives room to computerization
of different aspects of managing and planning events while presenting both challenges and
opportunities for this industry of events (Sherlocks & O’Connor,2014) .
Technology 9
Advantages and Benefits of the Project The project will help in acquiring a better understanding of what events.
It will also help in having a better understanding of the technology.
It will help in having a better understanding of the various advancements in the technology.
It will enhance the understanding of the impacts that the technology has on events.
It will help people to embrace technology and use it for the benefit of their different companies
and business and most especially the events industry which is the field of interest of this research
project
Scope The scope of the project is concerned with research on the impacts of the technology on
the events industry. It has various objectives which are outlining what events are, what event
technology is which involves identifying the technological aspects that are used in the
management of events and the identification as well as understanding the effects of technology

which influence the events industry. It will discuss the use of the internet, search engines, social
networks, the web and any other factor that is included in technology and which has specific
links to events and is significant the events industry. Understanding the advantages as well as
disadvantages of technology as far as the events industry is concerned is also an essential aspect
of this project. The research project will not include anything that is outside technology issues
and how it relates to events.

Data Gathering The project will make use of secondary data whereby many secondary sources, that work by
other researchers will be analyzed and interpreted to gather a critical knowledge of the
information available regarding the topic. Secondary data will help in getting background
information on the area of research and allow the researcher a greater familiarity with the
research area and allow an investigation that is more comprehensive.
Conclusion Technology can clearly be understood to be of great significance in the events industry.
Its various advancements also help in the progress of the events industry. Although it is not
without a few negative impacts, the positive effects of technology on events cannot be compared
to the negative ones. Technology impacts the growth, development as well as the feasibility of
the events, it allows for more professionalism in planning, allows for reliable execution,
enhances globalization as well as excellent transport. Applying technology in events provides
communication and serves as an equalizer for the event companies as online ticketing becomes a
norm in the industry. Online ticketing cannot be possible without technology. The impacts of
technology are altering the outlook of the events industry. Some of the negative impacts of
technology in events are the eradication of human resources as they are replaced by technology
and the fear for the technology to occur in a population that is aging. Technology can, therefore,
be said to be of great importance to the events industry, and as it advances, the events industry is
also progressing.
