Identifying a Truckload Carrier Report

Problem/Scenario: Briefly describe the problem or scenario.

As a transportation manager, I will be requested to find a reliable carrier to deliver the load of widgets to the retail customer. As an institution we value our customer’s satisfaction which is based on the time keeping and cost. The cost should be affordable and also the goods should be delivered in time. Since this is a last minute order, we are supposed to identify the fastest carrier for the shipment. This situation could be disastrous to the organization profitability if we fail to deliver the widgets in time.

Impact: What do you foresee as the impact(s) on Wonderful Widgets if a carrier is not found to move this shipment?

If the carrier is not found to move the shipment in time, we are likely to make losses and loose one of our loyal customers. This is one of the greatest deals for the organization and therefore if we fail to deliver the goods, we are likely to make losses and loose lots of money. Also, we are likely to loose this potential client because of poor service. This one has been one of our potential client and it would be a great loss to us as an organization.

Actions Required: What actions are required to identify a truckload carrier? Be specific.

To identify the right truckload carrier, there are series of actions towards the process. First, it is important to read and review the bill of the load information. This information would be helpful in determining the prospective carrier. Therefore, it is ready and review them to initiate the process. The next action to take is to evaluate the various factors in determining the right truckload carrier. For instance, cost, safety and reliability of carrier are the primary factors in identifying the truckload carrier.

Solution: Explain in detail what steps and information are needed for a T.O. to identify an appropriate truckload carrier for this shipment. More importantly, what steps or process did you use to identify the carrier? Why?

The first step in identifying the carrier is gather data pertaining to the carrier. It is important to collect respective information about the relevant carrier. The information needed should be about the weight, carrier load, currently location of the carrier, carrier rate and hours of operation. After collecting all this information and considering these factors, it is assess the most convenient carrier depending on the stipulated factors. There are very many carrier types and one can easily get confused when choosing one. Therefore, it is important to assess the best one according to the circumstances. For instance, in this case, it is important to choose the one that would be deliver the shipment in time
