This module’s readings look at the application of technology to wellness. These are only a few examples of how the applied sciences can support wellness. As you review this week’s readings, also consider how the other two lenses we have reviewed thus far (history and humanities) play a role in how wellness and science come together. For instance, how has health and wellness changed throughout history as technology and scientific understanding has evolved? What role do the humanities play in helping inform the design of wellness technologies?
Review the following resources:
· Genetically Modified Organisms
· Mind Over Matter: Using Technology to Improve Wellness
· Wearable Technology and Employer Wellness Programs: Gaps and Solutions
In this module, you will explore wellness through the lens of the natural and applied sciences: technology, engineering, biology, and health sciences, to name a few. Technology has helped us gain better insights into diagnostics such as x-rays, MRIs, and CT scans. Engineering has continued to revisit the designs of prosthetic limbs and joint replacements to improve the overall quality of life for people affected by limited mobility. Technology and engineering have collided to develop nanotechnology and noninvasive surgery practices that have helped ease the trauma of surgery and improve recovery time. Biologists have unlocked the ability to analyze genomes, which has helped advance the ability to diagnose and treat diseases on a genetic level.
On a more familiar level, modern technological and scientific advancements have led to a wealth of wellness-related wearable devices, smartphone apps, interactive websites, social media, and other supports for wellness. These resources and tools put wellness at your fingertips, helping you take charge of your health. Consider what apps you use to keep track of your health and wellness and how looking at them through the four lenses can help you gain a deeper understanding of their design and function.
This week you are working on Milestone Three, in which you will have a chance to start drafting out the multimedia presentation that will inform your Final Project Part Two submission. For this part of the project, you will continue to consider your chosen issue/event, but begin to apply it to a larger concept of wellness and society.
Instructions
For this third milestone, you will reflect on content that will inform your multimedia presentation, which you will include in Final Project Part Two. You will reflect on the interconnected nature of wellness and its impact on one’s individual framework of perception, one’s discipline of study, and society in general. The milestone will be submitted as a presentation draft that includes speaker’s notes. Please note that for this milestone assignment, audio narration is not required.
Make sure you support your response with the readings from this module and additional resources.
To complete this assignment, review the Milestone Three Guidelines and Rubric PDF document.
